Nigerian Driver's License accepted in Europe, US - FRSC

The Lagos Sector Commander FRSC, Chidi Nkwonta has said that the upgraded Driver's License being issued now in Nigeria can be used in 3 states in America as well as some countries in Europe.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday, Commander Nkwonta said in the US, the states of  Washington DC, California and Maryland recognize the Nigerian Driver's license while European countries such as Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, Poland, Spain, Austria and Sweden also recognize the Nigerian Drivers License. He said the license can be used in these places for a period of time, after which their own licenses would be issued.

He said these countries have the security measures to detect whether a presented Nigerian License is fake or original. He said efforts are being made for more states in the US to accept the use of our national drivers license there.

  13. Mr Chidi Nkwonta, I went to do my own license in December 2013, and when i finished, i took it to capturing centre at Sura Market at Lagos Island and was giving an appointment for July 2014. please is there anything you guys are doing to alleviate the suffering of people that need this license. other states are not this tedious and it cannot be explained why lagos is this sufferous.

    1. Sorry dude. Yet another avenue for someone on the "inside" to make money off of the suffering of the masses. Even with my so called "fast track" it took 6hrs+ to get the temporary one. And now to get the permanent one? I know someone who waited a year to go back for his permanent one and it still wasn't ready! Stamped with another extension. Now the next thing to harass people with is licence plate! I heard someone made N6B of that contract. N35,000??! How many people make that per month! And it's not a question of an effective mass transport system.....I weep for us as we continue to siddon look. 'Nuff said!

    2. Two reasons why they don't accept your license is (a) you have lived in Germany more than 2 yrs (b) the card cannot be verified, my wife just got hers after so many interrogation that stretched for more than 6months.

    3. Germany is the most serious country in the world when it comes to driving. I laughed when I saw Germany on that list in the report cos I knew it was not true. Plus DC has always accepted Naija's license. These guys r fraudsters. And as usual, my fellow ignorant Nigerians r praising them on this forum.

  42. Sorry to burst FRSC Bubble. The countries accepting these licenses are not doing so because of being able to identify the owner rather it is just a proof that you can drive.
if they base it on identity - guys it is a no no. Because the sharp practices by men of the FRSC,clearly shows that the very people that are given the task to make this right are the ones bastardising it.
The so called driving exam at the centers are done by the men of the FRSC for people for a fee. Visual test are equally done for a fee -I can go on and on.
If you want to get the license and apply the way it should go, be sure you license will only get to you already expired all because you refused to pay a fee to have it processed by men of the FRSC and their agents.

Lets stop fooling ourselves Nigeria is not getting any better rather it is getting worse...

  55. I would be shocked if this man's assertions are true. Majority of Nigerians in Nigeria generally do not go to driving school to learn how to drive. Yet they get drivers licenses. Look at the manner some people drive on our roads. I will be surprised if the Europeans and Americans will start accepting our licenses because our government issues them.

  57. It's def not a new thing, u can use ur nigerian license in Europe for a period of time, for most countries it's 1year and u wld have to get the countries license but u def need insurance cover. Few years back in Romania all u need was ur nigeria license and u will be issued a Romanian license. Having said that I encourage everyone to accept the new license cos a lot of ppl had fake including myself and I used it in several countries in Europe. Broke it when I realised in was fake cos It can mess u up abroad

  70. I do not know exactly what FRSC and the commentators mean by acceptance. Each State has rules on persons entering with license from another State. In Minnesota, my Nigerian License was accepted provisionally until I completed their requirements. It was treated just the way other licenses are treated. The 6 months waiver was granted me and scheduled my test within 2 weeks of passing the written test because of my Nigerian license. It was a great relief.
