Photo: Nigerian Girl trafficked for prostitution in Burkina Faso dies

A Nigerian girl identified as Gift from Edo state, (pictured above), has been found dead one month after she gave an interview to PM News, about how she was trafficked to Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso for prostitution.

According to PM News, Gift had told them in January 2015 during an investigative report on Human trafficking that she and some girls had been lured to Ougadougou in April 2014 with the hope of getting a better life in Europe but in the end were made sex slaves at the ‘Bar Dancing Petit Ouaga’, a brothel in Toudoubweogo village in Ouagadougou.

During the interview in January, Gift had expressed hope that once she has paid the traffickers their money, she would be free to leave. Sadly she has died. They didn't say how she died and when.

    It's saddening things had to end for her on a very bad note. When stories like this go on air of helpless citizens, I would think the government should do something. Do we have a diplomatic mission in Burkina Faso? If yes, what was done to help the poor girl? It's election time and politicians are running from pillar to post, looking for votes......What are their achievements so far? What have they done to ameliorate the sufferings of ordinary Nigerians? Are they running and issue based campaign? Is anybody saying anything about our Health care system and how messed up it is? Seriously, they (Government) don't care about us. We should be in the driving seat. They should be there to serve our interest. Thing is, we do not even know we have the power. We hold the key to government and unless we wake up, they'll keep taking us for granted. My heart goes out to the poor girl's family.
