Spanish priest with Ebola treated with experimental serum, Zmapp

The 75 year old Spanish priest who was infected with the Ebola virus in Liberia is being treated with the new experimental drug, Zmapp, which was used to treat two US missionary doctors infected with the virus.

The Spanish government claimed yesterday that the drug was imported from Geneva and doctors have begun to administer it on Fr. Miguel Pajares at Madrid’s La Paz-Carlos III hospital where he is in isolation.

The first person to be treated with the serum, Dr. Kent Brantly, saw his condition improve after being given Zmapp.

Since his treatment began, Fr. Pajares is said to be in stable condition, no longer has fever, and hasn't any hemorrhaging. Doctors believe that his condition will greatly improve in the coming days.

So erm, when is Africa going to get this drug?

    1. Well, now I'm beginning to get convinced dat this Ebola incidence in the first place was a planned one, how did it suddenly surface after years? Even if dey claim it's frm the wild.
How come Americans already have a hidden serum which was tagged "secret" & was only made known when their own got infected?
U can't just have a cure to something dat is not in existence .....u then must create one,
Mmmmmmm! just a logical reasoning "tables turn"

  12. I hope African government can see this foreign calculated injustice, so a white skin can get the serum but a black man can't, this is not fair. We are not stupid this is racism, African countries please enough is enough , stop taking our wealth in name of vacation to western countries, we are developing their countries while ours is in disarray. Children are dying from this virus and thousand are infected, hundreds are dead, yet it is not enough reason to produce this serum for Africa, and just of recent African presidents were called for Africa summit in USA, like seriously,

The Spanish priest is black and not white. Africans need to start utilizing the brain that God gave us in our labs too n stop depending on handouts and hand downs all d time. We are always begging for something. Can't we make ours for once? Abi it's not the same brain that God gave all of us????

This immigration officers and airport officials definitely did check on his international passport and travel documents, I believe customs and other airport officials must have check his luggage. This is very important. Airport officials may like carry the virus ebola and start spreading to others coming into Nigeria, and to friends and family or anyone they had contact with. because by law, you must submit your travel documents and by law officials must check your luggage. Let us pray and also learn to stop the spread of this deadly epidemic called ebola. We shall win this fight.

It's so not fair... also people have to b enlightened. Some news say the family of d dead nigerian nurse are on d run for fear of being quarantined which is so wrong. Wether u run or get quarantined, if u infected, u are infected. Its better to stay put get quarantined n get possible medical help instead of putting others at risk. Running away from quarantine is one of d major reasons ebola is spreading. Patrick Sawyer allegedly escaped quarantine n came to nigeria sick n weak. Lets help ourselves like d whites are doing to save our existence.

Google it, The Guardian said: "Nigerian Health minister Onyebuchi Chukwu told a press conference he had asked the US health authorities about the unproven medicines used on two American doctors, but was told such small quantities existed that west Africa would have to wait for months for supplies, even if they were proved safe and effective."

So only white people get to be saved for now.

No wonder, one of them suggested that flight from African should be banned. They are not happy at all. In retrospect, one wonder that since 1976 Ebola was discovered in Africa, al the continents intellectual have not been able to develop an antidote for the dreaded disease. Especially, Nigeria with over 100 Universities, what have they been doing with all the research grant and scholarship. This is one of the consequence of corruption.

I dont blame them, they are only protesting silently against Black Africa for the ineptitude.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Nigerians should start to see beyond racism and injustice. While Nigerian leaders were busy looting money, sponsoring multi-million naira parties, showing off newly-acquired private jets, the west was busy investing in research and development, they were funding universities to promote research, paying lecturers and ensured schools never went on strike. Plans were put in place to build special isolation units such as the one in EMORY twelve years ago. Now Ebola is spreading like wildfire, starting from countries with poor public health facilities and even to Nigeria who doesn't lack resources to have upgraded its health amenities, to have put in place screening centers at airports, to have in place sophisticated hospitals, 24 hours electric supplies. Who even thinks Nigeria has the facilities to use the Zmapp drugs?

    ReplyDelete
  76. SEE THIS US GOVERNMENT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING....AS LONG AS IT'S FOR THEM TO TAKE OUR MONEY THEY JUST WANT THIS VIRUS THEY CREATED TO SPREAD ROUND WELL...IF ITS WAS AN EUROPEANS COUNTRY THAT MAN THAT CAME FROM LIBERIAN DIED WITH THAT VIRUS WHICH HE IS ALSO AN AMERICAN CITIZEN...THEY WOULD HAVE CHARGE AMERICA TO COURT...SEE JONATHAN...HE FUCKING DOESN'T KNOW HE'S RIGHT....ANY NIGERIAN CAN DIE LIKE CHICKEN AND NOTHING WILL BE DONE...SMMMMHHH.....SAMSON

    ReplyDelete
  77. Some of you are very stupid. Always shouting racism.

When the West was spending millions or research, testing and facilities. Africa was busy spending its money on lavish parties and private jets. Now you say its not fair that they don't give you the drug.

How much did Africa contribute to the development of the drug?

    ReplyDelete
  78. It will come when we start our own research and experiments. Everything in Africa we wait for others to provide. Msheww!!

    ReplyDelete
  79. All those people saying they should send it to Africa, they will not send it to Africa unless Africa show responsibility and go and get it them selves. Ministry of health in naija is there stealing money instead of the minister to be in america chasing the serum and naija government should be sending funds to these foreign labs and if possible go and get these samples at least to control the disease before it gets out of hand. instead of just seating down and be stealing money and hoping that america will come and do miracle.. irresponsible continent

We are always waiting for a foreign government when we have the resources to do something for ourselves . Even Obama said it, that if we imbibe best practices we can control it. He said it in his speech we should focus on controlling the spread than thinking of the drug. Ebola out break can be controlled if we do the right thing. we could have prevented this man from entry in the first place.

Ebola has been in west Africa for years. Why didn't we research on it since to find cure? We are also waiting from the White man to help us with Malaria in our own country too? and we have research institutes ?

The Abacha money that is being returned where is it going? What is stopping it from being used to develop a drug??

After you give the drug then what??? Brantly and the lady in Emory, do you think they are just sitting on bed?? What facilities do we have? Do we even have a blood bank? Do we have proper ICUs??? If bp drops, how fast can we administer pressors? If th patient starts coding, how quickly are the team trained to respond?

I laugh that people think and people like you Linda are spreading such information, when you should really be explaining the complex situation.

This ignorance is too much, just way too much. It's no surprise we are exactly where we are! We plan for nothing! If ppl die from this drug, Linda you would be the first to write an article shouting bloody murder! Linda you should be ashamed of yourself that not once did you discuss Ebola from feb till it landed in Nigeria!! Quite embarrassing to all of us from Nigeria inside the plane before we were allowed to disembark from the plane even though it was a transit flight. May God help us in this matter.

  113. First off, its important to understand that the only thing that is known about this drug is that it hasn't killed anyone, yet. Second, it takes a long time to produce, given a trillion dollars and unlimited manpower, it would still take months to produce more doses. Third there is enough of this drug for 5 people. FIVE! That is not near enough to play racial politics with.

NO, these white racist people are making excuses NOT to sent the vaccine to Africa!!

The people in Africa are BLACK and that why they kept the vaccine a secret!!

It look like vaccine is ONLY FOR WHITE PEOPLE!!
