Is there anything wrong with children running for election?

Some feel exposing children early to politics is an advantage while others feel it is a disadvantage as it exposes the child to a lot of emotional trauma. What's your thought on this?

    4. Sometimes I wonder how pple reason.. How can one expose kids to politics, a child who can merely take his own decision... How would u feel seeing your kid having enemies or don't u know that politics is a game of interest, struggle to survive, survival of fitteset, in the words of scholar, politics is who gets what, how and when....introducing a kid into politics is like teaching him/her how to make enemies and this is no what a responsible parent she do rather train your kids on how to be a good leader and a statesman so that wen he grows he can take line of politics if he desire, so guys before arguing try and find out d meaning of d concept,, I'm total against d idea if child politics especially taking politics in Nigeria context, check how d future will be if kids starts now to make enemies and learn how to kill or wicked them..plz don't take it personal

  8. I don't see anything wrong with that, politics ordinarily is a beautiful game. Bur the way its played in some places, especially over here portrays it in a very bad light.
I don't see anything wrong in children been introduced to healthy politics without bitterness.

  32. In my own opinion , there should be a total freedom . If a child wants to express himself or herself via political ambition , he should be given the oppurtunity so far his security is guaranteed

    ReplyDelete
  33. It depends on wat dey ar contesting for. Bt to me its nt good nd def its d parents dat wil sponsor dem.. me dnt likey at all.. dnt like kids on posterz.. nt good

  36. It is totally laudable in my opinion to expose kids to politics early, they will learn early not to see politics as a do or die affair and they can develop early leadership skills and will understand the need for integrity, honesty and hardwork etc as necessary values for success in politics...a total welcome development...

  40. It depends on what they are contesting for. It could be for a responsible post at school .Such position leaves them with some forms of responsibilities. Bt if for politics as in POLITICS? Then it's dangerous.Politics is a dangerous game.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Of course, if they don't start bullying others into stepping down, it is good for their self esteem. Good for the country too

  44. I dnt think so, Is too early to expose them to politics and what do the know abt leadership. No no no.

    ReplyDelete
  45. It depends on the age.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It will be a good development, for this will prepare them and make them realize that there's many mountains for them to climb if they want to be a good leader in years to come

  55. Children should be left to be children. Becoming a politician does not make one a leader but the other way round. Instead of this,I think career/leadership trainings should be organised for the kids. It would make them better.

    ReplyDelete
  61. The earlier the better. They'll develop confidence and understand the concept of hard work. Mind you, they are competing for "head boy " health prefect" etc. Plus It ll be good for when they are writing essays for higher Education. My brother had a campaign in his primary school. Before then he was quite shy n reserved #myopinion

  62. Hmmmmm! It's good to start early joor

    ReplyDelete
  63. It's a good thing. That's how you properly groom children on how to conduct themselves in such scenarios in the future. It's all about training them to be leaders. That's what the politicians of today lack.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Linda, Children politics is as good as child abuse.... You know why? They will only learn how to tell lies just like the adults.

  65. Exposing Dem 2 wat hatred? Abeg am fully in support. Wit all ds bombings everywhere, n is a NC way 2 bring Dem up. Parents should not just corrupt der minds n let it be natural. Cos whr d emotional trauma wil com in is wen d parents pressurise Dem.

  70. There's nothing wrong with it, they need to develop their leadership skills at this stage and if they are exposed to clean and transparent politics they won't depart from it. Good way to build a good Nigeria.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Linda I think you should have asked the question on a contextual basis. The children pictured are obviously vying for leadership positions in their school. In that context, I think it is perfectly okay. In primary school I was literally forced to become the head girl of my school just because their criteria for selection was based on excellent academic records. We sometimes forget that not every one has the capacity to lead. The advantage is that at that age, the healthy competition that comes with politics helps hone their management and leadership skills. It also helps the child act responsibly when he or she finally assumes office in that position. I totally support politics at that level and in that context. Nadia
