Father & daughter drown as their vehicle plunge into Lagoon in Lagos

A man and his daughter on Tuesday morning February 4th drowned in Lagos as a Toyota SUV in which they were travelling fell off the Ikota Bridge in Ajah and plunged into a lagoon.

Mr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident in Lagos.

He said that the man’s wife was thrown out by the vehicle as it somersaulted before plunging into the lagoon.

The LASEMA official said the accident occurred at about 1.00 a.m., and that the dead bodies had been deposited at a mortuary while the woman was taken to a hospital. Continue..

"We have recovered the dead bodies and have transferred them to the appropriate quarters for the necessary actions. The woman, rescued at the scene by emergency officials, has been taken to a hospital for treatment. Search for the vehicle, an ash Toyota jeep, is still ongoing. We are doing everything to get it out of the lagoon,’’ he said.

The general manager, who had yet to ascertain the cause of the accident, urged the state residents to be safety-conscious.

  26. So so sad! I saw the rescue team this morning on my way to work. I think LCC did not do enough to protect motorist from that lagoon. The 3 lane road became even smaller at that bridge, LCC kept the bridge the same size it was when the road was 2 lanes. And We are paying Toll fee on that Lekki - Epe express way.

  56. God have MERCY on us,we are not The most righteous yet He allows us live on... may we not die untimely n unnatural death... Nigerians need to take swimming as an important sport,my fear of that 3rd mainland bridge keeps growing... Full recovery to the wife only God can console her for this great loss

  57. The problem with nigeria is nigerians.all I read here is 'rip'God dis and God that.Next please...this mental laziness will keep taking this country backwards.noone wants to ask the right questions and demand answers.God will NOT come down to solve our manmade problems.sme people put themselves in trouble, some stay where trouble will meet them.some associate with trouble makers and become collateral damage.since we dont have a government, let us learn to take responsiblity for our actions.speaking of questions...where were the whole family going at 1am?probably at high speed cos its only nigerian to drive fast no matter the condition of the road or time of day.did the man fall asleep?what exactly happened?these are pertinent questions that an inquest will raise so a future occurence can be forestalled.but will nigrian police do that?its hard enough to recover the body, let alone rescue the living victims...all we do is say 'rip'God this, not my portion,I'm favoured, blood of Jesus....its sad.really
