Graphic photo: LAGBUS crushes soldier to death in Lagos

This horrible accident happened yesterday Monday Sept. 23rd along the Alaka/Costain crossover bridge in Surulere. The driver of one of the buses in the state mass transit scheme lost control of his bus and crashed into a soldier riding a motorcyle on the express. The yet-to-be identified soldier was cut almost into two by the bus. (Too graphic...but will show you just one pic).

According to a source who witnessed the accident, the driver was on top speed when he lost control of the vehicle as he approached a bad spot on the dilapidated bridge. The driver, while trying to avoid the bad spot, swerved to the left pinning the soldier on the railing of the bridge. The bus dragged the soldier for a bit and cut through his bowel.

Eyewitnesses said the soldier, who died on the spot, was carrying a woman on the back seat of the motorcycle, and was flung away from the impact of the collision. She survived the crash but is in a critical condition in the hospital. The driver of the bus fled the scene after seeing the extent of the damage and so did the passengers of the bus a few minutes later, fearing attack from soldiers.

See a pic after the cut. *Very graphic so be warned*

    1. Fashola needs to caution this lag bus/brt drivers, they drive recklessly&overspeed&that is very bad. They should be given a speed limit&also checked for sanity&alchohol usage. The driver of that bus should be sacked&arrested. May the soul of the soldier RIP!

    4. The soldiers seem to think that they are above d law..i often wonder if and when an accident happens perhaps its their uniforms and guns that will protect them instead of a helmet and keeping the heck off the highways!

  10. Dear Gov Fashola, your BRT bus drivers are more reckless than molue and danfo drivers, they always think with that private lane assigned to them, they are above the law. Another BRT bus crushed a car last night around 9pm along Ojota-Maryland link Bridge. They dont even care about the passengers they carry not to talk of other cars on the road, they have no speed limit sef. Another failed Project

  29. What is it with drivers and speed in this country? (Speeding to no where). If we take statistics of those who die on our roads, we'll see that People generally live longer in other countries cos they have speed limits, these laws should be enforced here too. *Posh Totty*

  32. And the show continues ..... Who is to blame for this the BRT ? The soldier ? Or the government . I think it all 3 buh mostly the govment and soldier... State goverment is still demanding for spendings it made on federal roads ... This is a scenario or bonario (if u like)of why their should be no delay in governance . The soldier played tete (gamble) after been enlightened with his life .... Sorry I don't cry for such..........

  34. No now, what kind of "lost control" is that?! If he swerved just to avoid a bad spot, then he should have looked at his mirror. You say "lost control" as if his brakes failed or something. The guy was in full control, but driving in the typical lunatic manner of lagos bus drivers. May his soul RIP

  43. I know that mistakes happen but generally speaking it is time Fashola and the FRSC punish their own. These BRT and Lagbus drivers are mad. Knowing they drive heavy and long buses and our roads are "fantastic", they drive like they are racing. They bully other road users. They move from one lane to the other without stoppping, checking. I almost got crushed by one of the lagbus drivers at Jibowo, yaba and the scariest part was that I had my just turned 3 month old baby in the car. My car was literally dented from front to back. I almost stabbed the driver to death. After all the complains and police, nothing happened...it all ended with sorry. God help us all.

  48. Unfortunate incident but this will be a recurring theme. Prayers alone are not enough!! There needs to a big overhaul in our consciousness and lack of awareness to simple risk mitigating measures. Poor soul!

  50. May his soul Rest in Peace. Corporal Saliu was a wonderful and kind soldier in the medical corps, helping to save lives as a medical aide. i (a civilian) had the astute privilege of working alongside him at the Nigerian Army Hospital Yaba. He was the epitome of what a dedicated loyalist and upright Military Citizen should be. In his company you would feel at ease, as if to say he was a fellow civilian at heart, despite his background, he endeared himself to his profession, his oath and his religion. He leaves behind a wife and children.

I implore the Government to fix that road, one cannot continue to point fingers or apportion blame now. A great soul has been lost. May there be solace in our prayers and a swift response from the authorities to prevent such re-occurrence on our roads.

    Salute Saliu.
Adieu Oga Mi ( AS HE WAS FONDLY CALLED)

    We will miss you.

  56. I was actually driving on the opposite side of the road, (i.e inward Lagos Island), there was this horrendous traffic on the bridge at about 8.25am. Suddenly I heard screeching metal sound from the other side of the road and looked out, and saw a red BRT Bus obviously out of control, come to a halt at the edge of the bridge, slated across the road. Then I looked again and I saw the solider sandwiched between the edge of the bridge and the BRT Bus, he raised his head for what seemed like a second after the bus came to a halt, then his head fall backward and I knew instantly that he just died, for the first time I saw an adult die. Life is so fragile, life is so very short! I was mentally scared by this incident. I wept for the solider who just passed on even though I didn't know who he was. May his soul find eternal rest. I lost the zeal for work and Monday morning rush, because I saw how close eternity could be, are you ready for eternity?

May dat soldier soul rest in peace. Dat m man who fleed sould be dealth with appropriately, bcos he is d one who went against d law. There is a speed limit on eeveryroad in lagos.
