Nigeria spends N14k daily to feed each prisoner but see photos of severely malnourished inmates in Delta State Prison

The Nigerian Government said it spends N14,000 daily to feed each prisoner. The Minister for Interior Abdulrahman Danbazzau, who disclosed this last May during a town hall meeting in Kaduna State said that "it is unacceptable for government to be committing N10 billion every year on feeding of prison inmates"
However, photos of severely malnourished inmates in Delta State Prison posted on Facebook on Friday, December 16th, by Prince Harrison indicates otherwise. See what he wrote after the cut...

"Today I visited a prison in Delta State Nigeria. This is their condition. No medical facility, no drugs. They are dying. I was able to get a lawyer who has promised to defend them so they can leave prison and get quick medical attention. They can't urinate, they can't stand for 10minutes. Our laws says they are Innocent until proven guilty. They deserve a better life. I stand with Yali Network to bring awareness to our government on the need for the welfare of Nigeria Prison"

14000 naira daily to feed one/each prisoner!!!!!!!!????????
They wouldn't use up to 5000 naira daily on each prisoner even if the prisoners were being fed with chicken and milk!!!!!
Just 1500-2000 naira daily can make a person over belle-ful.....

  12. Am sure the money is meant for keeping and not feeding, which includes cost of salaries for guarding personnel and security cost for securing an inmate. Just my view though.

  15. The state of 'I dont care' altitude in this country is so alarming, I wonder how some persons sleep at night, under your watch things will get so bad to this point, honestly until we begin to put ourselves in other peoples shoes and treat them right, things will go from bad to worst. What ever a man sows he reaps, there's always time for settlement be it good or bad. May God save us from enemies within.

  21. This is a big lie, Nigeria can never use 14k on a prisoner daily. This money is lining someone's pocket. It is sad that an armed robber or prisoner get 14k for feeding and yet the masses suffer for lack of food. Why not use the money on orphans?

  34. Should we believe 14k is actually spent on each of these inmates?, even the average Nigerian dont spend 14k a day on their meals but still look very well fed. The leadership of that Prison should be probed for corruption and attempted murder, this is outrageous and unacceptable!!

  38. If you have ever had cause to visit a Nigerian prison you'll weep for the grave injustice being meted out by both the judicial and remand systems in Nigeria. Mind you up to 6o% of those you may see in regular prison have not yet been convicted of any offence. Many will spend years there on trumped-up charges and some will be eventually freed, without compensation, leaving them with no means of obtaining justice but to seek vengeance on society through criminal enterprise.

  39. I feel for this but pls,say no to robbery, kidnapping, killing and other deadly activities that might land you in prison.

  48. If truly this jail birds are been fed with 14 k everyday it is better to inside than outside. But it obvious it is a lie, with 5000 daily TanTalizers will feed this people three times daily and many Nigerian would prefer to be inside than outside the prisons. Butl can assure you a roguish director, supplier, supervisor, warder is feeding fat on the skeletons of these inmates. May God deliver Nigeria out of this bondsdage.
