'Why I requested for N13m travel loan'- Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has explained his request for a N13.12 million loan from the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, meant for logistics for an official assignment to China. In a statement signed by the Director, Public Relations and Protocol in the Ministry, Peter Dama, Lai Mohammed said‎ the letter to the NBC requesting for a loan was mischievously leaked to social media by staff of the commission.‎

The statement added that the loan was to cover tickets and travel expenses of a five-member delegation being led by the Minister to Beijing, China, for a Conference on Tourism for Development.
“The loan being requested for is for the ministry to meet up its obligations to enable the Minister and members of his delegation attend the all important conference. The loan is not meant for the minister alone as personal expenses, but for the expenses of all members of the delegation. The Conference is being organised by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation in conjunction with the Government of the People’s Republic of China, under the overall theme “Tourism for Peace and Development. It will feature amongst others, discussions on major issues for sustainable development including the contribution of Tourism to poverty reduction and peace. The conference is a veritable platform to develop synergy and partnership with players in the global Tourism Industry which will go a long way in boosting our drive to diversify the Nigerian economy,” it stated.

    5. A top most Newspaper Editor-sitting on a befitting chair in the office of a National Newspaper in Lagos, Mr. Samuel Ajayi wrote this breakfast-open Memo to our dear President, Muhamadu Buhari.

MEMO TO MY PRESIDENT, THE THIEF CATCHER...
      My dear Mr. President,
      Rankadede sir.

There is always this sense of excitement from your supporters whenever they hear that someone (always from the opposition) has been invited by EFCC. They go overdrive whenever figures are mentioned.

Let me make it clear: I am 100% in support of you if you go after those who were awarded contracts and collected money without working. I will be your anti-corruption ambassador if you go after service chiefs who diverted money meant for their services. I support you if you go after banks who aided money laundering. I am your man if you go after those itchy fingers at FIRS. Or those who collected defence contracts and subsidy claims and ran away. BUT YOU CAN NEVER BE MY GUY WITH THIS YOUR PROBING OF CAMPAIGN FUNDS. You know why? You are GUILTIER than those you are pursuing!

It is not only immoral, but against law of natural fairness for you who publicly announced that you borrowed money to buy your nomination form, but ran a campaign of hundred of billions of naira. Where did your money come from? Lets tell you certain things which you pretend not to know about.

      * When Akin Ambode resumed as governor of Lagos State, the total money he reportedly met in ALL Lagos State bank accounts was a paltry N850m! It was the lowest in recent memory. Not that alone. Capital budget for the fiscal year had been executed up to 85%! Yet, that was just FIVE months to the year. We only saw capital spending without capital projects. If they present these facts before you, you cannot deny you don't know where these monies went to.

*Rivers State has been complaining over almost N100b missing few months to the end of one of your minister's tenure as governor. Invite Wike over and you will hear ween!

      * Each state being ruled by your party was taxed to contribute to your campaign. Depending on the strength of their treasuries. But they tried to outdo themselves. Sir, can you swear by Allah that you don't know why many states could not pay salaries today? Ask your campaign treasurer! And also banks they took overdrafts from!

      * One of your ministers today, who is seen as agents of change, actually took N1b bank loan to prosecute a second term election he lost in 2014. If you are keen at probing campaign funds, sit him down and ask how he intends to pay back. As I write this, the loan is still pending!

      * There are couple of banks and oil service companies who contributed to your campaign funding too. Your EFCC has pretended as if it is not aware.

Politicians know themselves. They know how they fund campaigns. It is public funds. Contracts are inflated or outrightly not carried out. Funds are diverted. Banks play their own role. Contractors key in. On the eve of election, banks overwork themselves. From minister/commissioner down to special assistants, cash is provided for them to go and prosecute elections in their areas. These runs into billions. Is that acceptable? NO! BUT THAT WAS HOW YOUR OWN ELECTION WAS PROSECUTED TOO.

I learnt you turned the blind eye when all these were going on. You jettisoned your long held personal principle not to have anything to do with thieves. After winning election and assuming office, you wanted to pick that principle again and expect someone like me to hail you? No sir! Lailai!

Since you saw nothing wrong in people stealing to run your own campaign, you have no moral justification to go after those who equally stole to run their own campaigns too. Public funds are public funds, either in Abuja or Lagos!

Assurances of my highest regards! Say me well to the First Lady. As copied from a Facebook poster

Like I saw this and the first thing that came to my mind was the fact that all these people have going for one conference or the other up and down and still NOTHING IS WORKING IN THE COUNTRY so please Mr Mohammed when you get back from your trip after using 13.12 million Naira that would have solved a little portion of the problems of Nigerians will you come back home and do something about the unrest caused by book haram? Will you solve our security issues? How exactly will you fully utilize this 13.12 million? For five people to go and sit down and listen to someone else speak? I am soooo damn angry! When will we start doing things the right way? Why can't these people have the fear of the almighty God and do what they were placed in their different strategic places to do? The president does not spend up to a week in his country and things are getting worse everyday. All you people do is take from those who can't even feed themselves and travel the world. My God will judge all of you in due time. Have we not suffered enough because of the lack of proper judgment from these leaders? Our leaders are the highest paid in the world! What does that tell you? Their pot bellies are almost exploding and they eat and keep appearances and sleep and travel all day. Rubbish!

    1. I like your post. You hit the nail on the head. All these politicians are only interested in flying all over the world with their girlfriends or trying out chics in each country they visit. They also look for every opportunity to get travel expenses so they can pocket some. Is there a honest Nigerian politician? Probably a 1,000,000:1 odds. 19. Na so. As Nigeria is now a tourist attraction with all the eish we are dealing with @ the moment, the Minister thinks the most important thing to do is to attend tourism conference. Laughable

    ReplyDelete
  20. Mr Lai Mohammed, THE POINT IS; you do not NEED a five man delegation to travel for a United Nations conference. that amount is quite exorbitant especially in these hard times, by the way I thought Forex is scarce, why waste it on a 5 man team when at most u could just travel with two people... We know u all must take first class tickets, but abeg, reduce the delegation to save costs for the nation..

    ReplyDelete
  21. Is the NBC is a bank that gives loans to individuals? If Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information needs money to travel on his official duties, does him need a loan to do that? Doesn't his ministry have a budget? This is how ministers indirectly collect money from their department and agencies under their ministries. This CORRUPTION in the highest order! It must be condemned by all meaning Nigerians.

    6. In terms of value how will the ministry of information use this forum to help mitigate our present economic challenges
    7. These 5 persons who are they, their role profile as it relates to the conference
    8. How do u intent to refund the amount of monies borrowed from the NBC ,is there an established legal protocol for this type of borrowing... Explain.
    9. Were these other relevant ministries ond parastatals copied in this transaction?
ministry of budget and planning (for refund), ministry of tourism(for support and assent) CBN (for forex purchase) Ministry of foreign affairs (for support in logistics and sundry).

    10. Does your ministry have proof and documents to support all ur response to the questions raised?. Please provide these at ur defence.

  83. These old fools who are nearing their graves see this as the last chance to see the world, hence they resort to meaningless travels. They want to see the beauty of other countries but refused to develope their own. They won't offer good quality education to their citizens, their solution is to send their children to schools abroad.
They wont build good hospitals, then they run to hospitals abroad for a simple headache. They won't give their citizens electricity, thus they go to stay in hotels around the world where there is light 24/7. In my 23 years in europe i have only witnessed power failure 3 times and none lasted more than 3 hours, and was caused by lightening during rain. In Nigeria these sick leaders have spent billions of dollars on etectricity and still power supply is epileptic as epiplepcy itself. Ridiculos!!!
