CBN reacts to reports that they are illegally recruiting children of Atiku, Arase, others

The Central Bank of Nigeria has reacted to the public outcry of an illegal recruitment exercise allegedly carried out by the apex bank. Sahara Reporters on Tuesday March 15th, reported that the bank employed the children of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, IGP Solomon Arase and others to some key positions in the bank.

The list of beneficiaries of the CBN’s secret job recruitment includes a daughter of former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, a son of Mamman Daura, a nephew of President Buhari and one of the closest members of the president’s inner circle, a son of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, a daughter of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’aba, also daughter of of the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, a son of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Abdurahman Danbazzau and at least 86 others.

This report has sparked up public outcry as many believe that the bank should have publicized the job openings for many other people to to apply.

However in an interview with Premium Times yesterday March 16th, the CBN’s acting Director of Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor said the bank did nothing illegal or wrong in hiring without advertising.
“In the last two years, we have had cause to recruit specialists, and what the law says is that if we are going for that kind of recruitment we should apply for waiver, so that we can do targeted recruitment" He said the bank obtained waiver from the Federal Character Commission. “The other issue is that there are states that are not well represented (in the CBN), and in this case we focus on those states to recruits people of certain classes that we used to cover the shortfall in those states,”he said

  3. And the only people qualified to cover the shortfall in those states are the children of the "Haves"? Why not me , or Abokidawarriboy or Sani a graduate living in the village of Halima hawking pure water coz there's no job? Atiku is from my state & we've got enough qualified graduates to walk in CBN
This is why the gap between the haves & the have nots can never be bridged. Favouritism & Godfatherism have eaten deeply into the fabrics of our nation

  8. Why are we shouting? This is a norm na! Before na common people like us way no get good jobs they find time comment or LIB na e dey go employ? How much our Papa don steal or get for CBN? Only those that have stolen or have the capacity to steal billions will have the privilege to nominate their wards for juicy Federal jobs. And besides most of them children are First Class students from the many Ivy Leagues around the world. So why the murmur?

Let's continue doing what our myopic minds tells us we are good at, holding briefs for APC or PDP and fighting ourselves while their children continue using ill-gotten wealth to better themselves abroad and coming back to ensure we continue the circle.

Let me ask us this question, how many of the well known commenters here or elsewhere are children of the wealthy or influential people in the society? Ponder on that and give yourself brain.

  11. This is the silliest and most insane comment of all times. Firstly, you did a secret recruitment and applied for waiver to appoint children of people in public officer and you see nothing wrong?
Secondly, you are talking of federal character in an institution that require more of professionalism; no wonder our economy and Naira is in the state it is presently.

Thirdly you opened your garlic smelling mouth to use the word 'class', do you even believe that selected children are better and knowledgeable than every other person abi? Shame on you!!!
It is now clear that this administration is no different from any other they are accusing; what a shame. We are just a bunch of jokers in this country!!!!

  27. Mr. Okoroafor, your defence of this clandestine recruitment of the so called specialists from privileged families in Nigeria smacks of a betrayal of the ordinary Nigerian, and an endorsement of the statusquo that has entrentched corruption and ineptitude in our public offices.
One of the reasons we voted for change was to correct the errors of the past, such as this. It beats me to read that you could only find suitable candidates for the positions you sought to fill from the families mentioned in the report.
Is this how we want to rebuild this country?

You give these jobs to children of those who pay their way through school despite the luxury. What level of barbarity? 45. Emefiele is the most unpopular and incompetent cbn gov to date. Sanusi, say what u like, brought sanity to cbn...and was visible throughout his tenure. He tackled the arduous corruption in the banking sector head-on nd which set him on a collision course with the establishment nd vested interests . Emefiele, on the other hand, has been walking a tight rope ever since his benefactor was booted out of office, nd this latest expose has made his position untenable.

  47. This is wrong.
Buhari should know this is wrong if he is still the same person we voted for.

  49. So u aren't denying the fact that CBN employed kids from men/women in power. U got waiver? Waiver to employ Atiku's daughter etc? From ur myopic views and words it shows CBN obtained same waiver to get u employed. This man is so unintelligent. Who asked him to speak for CBN? If CBN were looking for cover up, they should have contacted Someone smarter

Your desperation to be president was just to make sure you enrich yourself as you were not able to do the last time you were in power. Linda I would advice you stop flaunting your wealth am happy for you but your handbags will not keep you warm at night and it will get to a point you begin to think you are better than the masses that helped enrich you .
