“It is unthinkable that 55 years after independence, Nigeria is still not producing pencils when we have the human and material resources in the country. PRODA has to produce pencils for Nigeria and they have given me the assurance that this can be done and that with pencil manufacture here, we will be creating 400,000 new jobs. The (Muhammadu) Buhari administration is committed to creating new jobs and growing our economy,” he said.

The minister shouldn't have announced this shameful crap. How can he even be proud to say the manufacturing will start in two years time? If under his watch manufacturing of pencil will start in two years, I wonder how long it will take to start manufacturing cars.
DeleteI tire o. This man should wake up please. We are in year 2016 not 1966. So the 400,000 unemployed youths would even have to wait another 2yrs to get employed. We are not crawling, we are moving backward

ReplyDeleteChai, Ogbonnaya Onu, my one time able Biochemistry lecturer. How far now? Sir, we are in 2015. People still use pencils but a lot of work is moving towards computers. I know children will still use pencils to write so I am not worried about it in terms of value added - as long as the pencils are cheaper than imports and of comparable value. What I worry about is your prioritization scheme. Why pencils and not pens? Why not notebooks? Why not investment in another sector? Just checking Sir. Onwere ko di.
ReplyDeleteI saw it coming but wait oh, why 2years? so 400,000 unemployed would wait for 2years... regime don finish na

ReplyDeleteMr minister, u and ur team are anachronous. Pencils are one of the products that will become obsolete like credit cards soon. People now use mechanical pencils not the traditional pencils. Pls we need more creative and innovative items like drones for agriculture, powered exoskeletons, brain-controlled computers, graphene supercapacitors, electrical storages etc.

These are the things we have elected to rule us. Shallow minded stupid old men who think they can get credit by discrediting others. Always hated ppl like this. Is he a fool yhat he will be talking of naija being able to produce pencils in 2 yrs? Buhari has the wrong ppl in the wrong ministries. Na dash dem dash this one the post. You have under grads in unn trying to out do themselves every year with their projects with wonderful innovations yet this he goat is talking of pencils. Have you ppl seen them pmb and Co? No imagination. He goats. Minister of pencil not science and technology. All the ghosts of great scientist will haunt this man and his family.
