Swap Naija unveiled at Yali Network, #OLIC2 & Headies 2015

A group of young Nigerians – Opeoluwa Aiyegbusi, Lawrence Akinwale and Alex Taiwo Babalola – has unveiled a mobile app called Swap Naija at YALI Network Face2Face Dinner & Awards, Olamide Live In Concert and Headies 2015 respectively. Swap Naija is a mobile app for both Android and Blackberry devices, which enables smart-phone users in Nigeria to swap airtime from one network to another, thus breaking the previous constraint of network.

At the YALI Dinner & Awards, on 26th December, 2015, Alex Taiwo Babalola (Chief Marketing Officer) explained that he and his friends hope young Nigerians will be inspired by the app; he enthused: “Now that the impossible is made possible, it means you can also do it, break the barriers and make things happen”. The Chief Operating Officer of the company, Opeoluwa Aiyegbusi explained that he was inspired to create the mobile solution when his neighbour was attacked and he thought swapping airtime across networks could have helped in making a distress call. He advised the youths thus: “You have to be courageous to challenge the status quo. Always look for ways to turn negativity to positivity. That is what Swap Naija has done in enabling phone users to swap across different networks, say MTN to Glo; Glo to Etisalat; Etisalat to Airtel, and vice versa”.

At Olamide Live In Concert, which was held at Eko Hotel & Suites on 27th December, 2015, a team of beautiful brand reps of Swap Naija were there to engage Nigerian youths. Also, the venue of the concert was branded with Swap Naija materials. The same thing happened at Headies 2015, where freebies were given out by Swap Naija team, and the Chief Operating Officer of Swap Naija, Opeoluwa Aiyegbusi was interviewed on Headies Red Carpet at the backstage. Also interviewed on the red carpet were other celebrities like Small Doctor, Oritse Femi and MI, with the red carpet interviews being beamed live on Hip TV.

Swap Naija in its space is a mobile app, which makes airtime swap possible on the go in real-time. Before now, what was obtainable was a transfer between subscribers from similar. Swap has been integrated with different phone brands and telecom networks. The app can be downloaded at Google Pay Store and Blackberry World (for BB10 and above) respectively. Work is on-going to create versions for Microsoft and Apple phones. We hope to see more innovations from this team in 2016.
