'The Queen of England recognised my performance, but Nigeria did not' - Young Nigerian laments

The guy sent me his message to share. Read below...
My name is Akinmuda Oluwafemi, presently a 500level medical student of the college of Medicine, university of lagos. October 19 2007, at the age of 15, I alongside Mercy Richards, Yetunde Brown and Henry Akahara‎ represented Nigeria at the House of Commons, London to participate in the world slavery youth debate. We returned back to Nigeria with Gold medals.
An Evidence of good performance and representation of the federal republic of Nigeria. Only Henry Akahara was granted scholarship by the lagos state government under the administration of Governor Raji fashola to study in the UK... he claimed to have been the only one that went for the debate and won the medal and the lagos state government without making further investigations granted him. I remember, the director of the British council called a meeting with we all and our parents to be quiet that in due time we would be called. Till now, nothing. I'm just reminiscing, next year I would be a doctor, do I want to serve this country?Does this country have anything to offer?
Even when you go the extra mile to represent and honour this country at different levels and you still are not appreciated, I ask myself is it worth it being a Nigerian? On second thoughts however, is it just the PDP government that was so selfish and corrupt and won't recognise an award for excellence from the highest level "The Queen of England Herself" courtesy LORD John Prescott? Is it worth is being a Nigerian??? Google "kemishia Kelly"‎ she was a participant, ever since recognised by Jamaica as a participant. Even wikipedia recognises her. All other people that participated in the debate today are recognised for their excellence and hold strong posts in their various countries.
And here I am, just reminiscing. I just want all Nigerians to read this, and think of it over and over...‎. So in all I just want this to go public, and let all Nigerians feel my pain, and lookout for this APC administration. Would they prove me wrong about my feeling as a Nigerian? Do they appreciate excellence?? Time would tell...

    2. You sound like an opportunist. There's something called selfless service for the country. If u expect recognition then ur service wasn't selfless. Plus...if ur flight n accommodation was catered fr by the govt I dont see any reason for the rant. Just do that which u can and leave the rest for God. Others have done more n haven't made noise over it!

    2. U sure say you're a medical student? Ok o. Meanwhile if the whole world recognizes you and God does not, it is a waste but if God recognizes you.......... Seek the recognition by God and not man. Also you're not the only one in that shoe........cheer up.

    3. Nigerians are pretentious. Imagine telling him to seek recognition from God alone or asking him if he is selfless.
He deserved a scholarship to study abroad. He won the gold medal. N how can the scholarship only be given to 1 person.
Instead of people to protest with him, they keep on arguing N questioning his motives

  8. It's so painful this country has no regard for talent. Whatever u do, just do it for urself. When u bcom successful and ur name is heard worldwide, Nigeria begins to claim u as theirs. It's tough bn a Nigerian. No motivation from the government. All they do is loot and loot. U have to be ur own motivation at all times.

  17. How this guy won the said debate is a mystery to me! I mean I don't understand what the rant is about? Is it about Nigeria not recognizing him, or Fashola not awarding him scholarship, or the British council, or the PDP government, or the other participant being awarded a scholarship or Wikipedia not acknowledging their win?! I don't understand! Then the issue of serving 'this country' lol. He needs to take a chill pill. Some of us represent this country outside without making noise about it. It's our country!

  20. 1. How was Henry the only one who got a scholarship? And how was he able to convince the state government that he was the only one who participated in the competition?? And why didn't yiy and the others speak up then??
    Something doesn't sound right.

    2. There are so many people who deserves recognition who haven't gotten it. Just be grateful that you're career is on the right track. Maybe, and just maybe God has something better in stock for you.

    3. You don't need to beg for recognition. No! The gift of a man makes a way for him, it brings him in the presence of kings and not mere men. So stop this act of attention seeking.

You are just hungry for attention. The mere fact that you brought politics into this is rather annoying and a low blow. Expect NOTHING from the govt. work on yourself and how you can rise above what has happened and be a better person that can/will achieve greater things in life.
Oga pls you have reached 500l... Please move on. We thank you for the wonderful contribution you have made for this country. Now, learn to expect nothing for giving something and you will realize your life will be much happier.

The news carried only Gideon putting me aside, in fact I have to stop here, Nigeria is not worth my citizenship. See Gideon wasting in NDA, if and only if they understand what we are made of. A young man had just expressed himself, something not totally alien to all of us in different sector and you guys are talking trash. I can imagine the amount of mediocre we have in this country. Not like there is something you can all do, but a least a sense of respect for his plight. We seem to have some many problems we are used to and therefore end up shunning those who cry out. Let us start knowing what to do about this country, before we wouldn't have a story to tell the future generation.

    ReplyDelete
  69. After reading the comments of my country men, I now know beyond any reasonable doubt that the problem of this Country are the people i.e. Nigerians. A young man had a flash back, traveled down the memory lane, and remembered how he [too] had being victimized and sidelined by some unscrupulous individuals who had over the years occupied different positions of power and had either refused to deliver or performed below what they promised [not even below our expectations]. Instead of us to rally round him and demand for justice for him [because an INJUSTICE TO ONE IS AN INJUSTICE TO ALL], some of us are scolding him. Little wonder our politician are preying on our discord and disunity as a people.
But for those of us that are "BEEFING" or "HATING", please kindly continue, Remember that though you might be "TALENT-LESS" or "UNTALENTED" or "UNGIFTED", but one day, someday, God might decide to give a STAR or TALENT as a son or daughter, Niece or Nephew, Husband or Wife, then how will you FEEL if this kind of event that happened to this young man, happen to any of them???
