Lagos State Gov to monitor churches, mosques preaching hate messages

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday said it will start monitoring the activities of churches and mosques in the state to check the ones spreading hate messages stating that religious intolerance will not be accepted.

The Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr. Abdulhakeem Abdullateef, made this statement during a meeting with members of the Nigeria inter-Religious Council, at the state secretariat, Ikeja.

He said:
“Henceforth, we will start to monitor mosques and churches and ensure that clerics do not engage in hate preaching capable of endangering people’s freedom.
“Our constitution recognises the rights of every citizen to express himself or herself in a way he or she believes. Also, everyone has the right to freedom of religion and conscience.”
He also asked clerics to remove their external loudspeakers after use so as not to constitute a nuisance to their community.
“This is the time for advocacy; let everybody realise that they have the right and freedom to practice their religion, but you will be stopped from practising that religion if it creates mischief and under Section 45 of the constitution, the government is empowered to put a stop to your freedom when it endangers other people’s freedom.
“We are going to ensure that this advocacy is taken to the grass roots to let people know that we are not stopping them from practising their religion but the rights of others must be taken into consideration,” he added.
The co-chairman of NIREC in Lagos, Dr. Saheed Timeyin, also advocated the need to prevent youths from having contact with religious extremists.
He advised the state government to include Peace Education in the curriculum of primary and secondary schoolchildren for them to imbibe tolerance.

  7. Propaganda.

    APC NEEDS TO QUIT PROPAGANDA.

APC NEEDS TO STOP BRAINWASHING THE NATION.

GO GIVE YOUR SERMON TO RILWAN, THE APC LEADERS THAT THREATENED TO DROWN IGBO PEOPLE IN LAGOS LAGOS.

WHEN OBA OF LAGOS PREACHED HIS FAMOUS HATE SPEECH AGAINST THE IGBOS, AMBODE AND OTHERS APC LEADERS IN LAGOS AND ABUJA STAYED SILENT INSTEAD OF TELLING THE MAN HE WAS WRONG.

WHEN BUHARI AND HIS BROTHER SHEKAU WERE HITTING UP THE POLITY AND INCITING ETHNIC AND RELIGIOUS HATE, AMBODE AND OTHERS APC LEADERS IN LAGOS AND ABUJA AND UP AND DOWN THE COUNTRY STAYED SILENT INSTEAD OF TELLING THE MAN HE WAS WRONG.

AMBODE, BUHARI, TINUBU, FASHOLA, OBASANJO AND ALL OTHER APC LEADERS ARE CROOKS, HYPOCRITES AND SCUMBAGS.

THEY SHOULD STICK THEIR USELESS PROPAGANDA AND SERMON WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE.

  29. I think this is least of the problems facing Lagos state. There are bigger problems the governor can pay attention to.

    a) Many roads are bad
    b) No proper water in circulation
    c) Insecurity
    d) Poor drainage facilities
    e) Traffic issues
    f) More Schools
    g) Equip hospitals and build more
    h) Poor learning environment in schools
    i) Poor maintenance culture of various social amenities and infrastructures in the state.

Let me help you list your job descriptions, Focus man , there is work to do.

  33. Hahaha, please monitor the government non performance in the following areas

    1. Decent and uninterupted water supply (which has been unavailable for two month now)
    2.Traffic gridlock
3.Incessant robbery in traffic on same spot
    4. Mud slide and other land movement natural occurrences: It is so cruel that the so called Governor did not even visit Magodo Isheri where mud slide killed innocent children.

I think the above tasks are enough for one year instead of monitoring religious institutions around.

You guys should rather maintain the legacies of the previous administration if you can not even add a single inch to their achievement.

Fashola's achievement was a baseline for government performance in lagos, this government has dropped the bar.

You guys should please sit up and sensor your communications before ypu dropped the bad ball to the public through unwarranted speaches.

  61. I hope the Lagos State Government will act upon a Petition we have written to the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency about a lady that engage in hate preaching every Wednesday and Friday 5 a.m. in Games Village Surulere. This woman belongs to the Lord Chosen denomination and all her preaching is centered on other Church denominations and the Muslims.

  62. Linda, is there no difference between 'government' and 'governor'? Please use appropriate abbreviation for the report's title.

  63. It's a good one...But we know the people who preach hate and who almost spend their preaching hours trying to disprove the authenticity of Jesus christ... this needs to be enacted in the North...thats where it's a nuisance...and churches who has refused to soundproof their church auditorium located in residential areas. Everything should be done well..

  68. Come to Ajegunle and hear unbearable noise from Churches and Mosques speakers. That I think should need urgent action. Secondly, monitor your local governments including state roads in a very bad situation. Check out streets where repairs was half done because then one PDP leader was living the next building.

Dear governor there is much work to do.
