For 10 Years, @SoundcityTV has been a huge supporter of #PSquare and the #PSquare brand, right from their 1st music video to the last video released in 2014. Most of their videos got massive airplay on @SoundcityTV than any other music channel.@SoundcityTV viewers sometimes complain about the dominance of #PSquare videos on the channel & charts. We were a huge supporter and gave everything to their works.
We have assisted the #PSquare brand, toured with them over Africa at our expense. Gave them ad-spots for their events / projects. Gave them prime time slots for their videos and included them in our array of Programmes / programming.
We invited #PSquare to one of our annual events last December 2014 and they insisted we pay a certain amount of money. We reasonably asked, what is the least we can offer?; this was us foregoing the fact that we had invested a lot in #PSquare’s career as music talents / artistes & entertainers.
The feedback was, “WHAT HAS SOUNDCITY EVER DONE FOR PSQUARE? TELL ME ONE THING SOUNDCITY HAS EVER DONE FOR PSQUARE” (Jude Okoye, Manager).
While we understand that this is business, there is also room for special consideration. Saying our TV brand has never done anything for #PSquare was quite damning. Clearly, there was no need to argue with their decision and reasoning. We decided to stop ‘doing anything’ with/for #PSquare, since our 10years of supporting the group meant nothing to them. We assumed our relationship was a mutually beneficial one, but clearly one-sided.
Ultimately, #PSquare music videos stopped airing on @SoundcityTV since January 01, 2015. Soundcity reserves the right to air music videos on our cable / satellite or terrestrial platforms.
Overall, we wish the duo the best in their endeavours. @SoundcityTV will keep airing works of the best and upcoming Nigerian artistes, and also, the best #African artistes to the world, especially nurturing their talents from inception till they become huge megastars and international superstars.

So I don' t think they are, from their own 'pocket' giving back to the society yet. PS: No hard feelings,these guys are a snob, snub, so full of themselves, saucy and arrogant. A friend of mine sometime this year had a personal experience with one of the duo, I tell you, that experience was not pleasant. ReplyDelete@ ikenna, if they started their career before soundcity nko? were they made before tv stations started airing their music and brought them into limelight? that is the problem with all these celebrities. before they become popular and rich, they go about begging tv stations such as soundcity and others to play their songs but once they become succesful, they tell those stations who have helped 'they have not done anything for them.' did soundcity collect millions of naira from them to play their songs every day and every week? asking Psquare to perform at soundcity event is not too much for psquare to do even if they perform for just 30minutes, its ok. its a way of saying thank you for suporting us, at worst they (psquare) ask for 'fuel money' though they are rich and can afford it. so grow up. remember, getting to the top is not the issue but remaining at the top is the problem. what they did to soundcity, am sure they will do it elsewhere, time will tell. all i know is P square should beware of Jude.

Sometimes, we make ordinarily simply matters complicated by our handling of them. Good communication and interpersonal relationship skills could have solved this problem. When one party lacks these skills, the other MUST NOT as well. Some comments do not come out good during conversations, we must learn not to pick on them. Patience remains a virtue especially when modesty in speech is lacking. Imbibing both modesty and patience would help our relationships grow in fruitfulness and mutually beneficial partnerships.
Jude Okoye was wrong to have made the alleged statement, but soundcity was even 'wronger' (excuse my french) to have reacted the way they did.
Let us all strive to help each other to grow.

ReplyDeleteI wish I could do this without hiding under anonymity, but my career is quite important right now as I don't have as much money as Psquare. Soundcity are the most ungrateful station in the world and I am not surprised Psquare asked for money. When Oga Tajudeen was still having programme on other stations e.g Laugh Pattern and comedians invest their talents into the programme, he has forgotten. Now, you approach them for media support and they ask for money forgetting that we are all aiming for a greater height. I have heard of them demanding for tables at comedy shows and specific number of ushers to serve only their tables and huge amount of money, pretending not to know how costly it is to break even when you invest in shows without sponsors. I laugh at Soundcity as their bad behaviour has seen the best of their staff left and their viewers turned fans of HipTv. Some of us actually prayed that nemesis will catch up with them. The day HipTv starts being unreasonable, God will consider our combined efforts put into their success and bring them down. Linda, please don't just post this as a comment, I beg you, but let people read as a response. I know they will insinuate this to an innocent person, but at least they will know their wrong is catching up with them. A lot of entertainers are not happy with them.

ReplyDeleteI do not think the management of Soundcity wanted the duo to perform pro bono. Rather they wanted some discount which is the normal practice between artistes and media owners. I had cause to interact with the boys and I can testify that the boys are well behaved and highly cultured. The problem is that of management. Jude lacks the attitude and the desired finesse required of a word class artiste manager. Toni Kan had once written about how some artiste managers cut short the career of their artistes. An example of another idiotic and unreasonable artiste manager is 9ice's former manager,Dehinde. His arrogance is responsible for 9ice's struggling career today.
