In Nigeria today, poverty wears a Northern face - Gov Shettima

Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima says poverty in Nigeria now boldly wears a Northern face. He said this at the Northern Governors Forum meeting which held in Kaduna state yesterday.
Things have become so bad, so much so that we can say without fear of contradiction that in Nigeria today, poverty glaringly wears a bold northern face. We have turned our region into a laughing stock, derided by friends and foes alike, and, not without justification, as having dragged the rest of the country down with us. Regrettably today, our region has become a thriving nest for war, terrorism, deep seated social divisions, senseless violence, mind-boggling intolerance, injustice, destitution, joblessness, and all manners of other social vices, the height of which is the madness called Boko Haram. No amount of lamentation will, of course, solve our many problems. We need to act, and fast too. This generation of Northern leaders, led by us the Governors, have both a moral and constitutional responsibility as well as a historic opportunity to reverse the negative fortunes of our people.
We must do everything in our power to restore and entrench the lofty values of unity, understanding, tolerance, mutual respect, empathy, justice and mutual coexistence in the minds of our people and region. We must firmly and decisively commit ourselves to fighting poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, terrorism and other forms violent crimes in the north.” he said

    2. At least theyre sitting down to recognize d problem. Its a serious problem - ecspecially wt uneducated almajiris being indoctrinated into terrorism. And all d senseless killings carried out by fulanis in kaduna & jos against other tribes. I pray theyre able to come up wt solutions for a more educated & prosperous north wt justice for every tribe. This should be lauded by all of us. Ecspecially since theyre looking for solutions beyond party politics.

A PROSPEROUS & PEACEFUL NIGERIA FOR ALL NIGERIANS should be d goal of governance.

    3. Who listens to this imbecile Governor called shettima? You made ur region a laughing stock by inventing boko haram to distrupts GEJ's govt... And it backfired

    4. Ha @kc WHEN did a yoruba person EVER betray u? U say dt like dts DOCUMENTED & FACTUAL like crime rates & poverty uve used in ur analogies. The only documented ACT of betrayal i have seen in this country was when some young majors gathered themselves together in d middle of d night & KILLED d leaders of d other regions in dis country. They advised their own leader, who also happened to be d president of ALL OF US to extend his trip. This leader did not warn his colleagues he partnered wt to win elections nor did he consider us, d citizenry, in order to put a stop to it. Dt is d FACE OF BETRAYAL. It was so bad dt zakariya maimalari ran towards 'his friend' ifeajuna as he escaped for his life. Ifeajuna shot him as he got to d car. Dt is d FACE OF BETRAYAL.

What yoruba example do u have of betrayal? Pls be detailed & factual.

Just one very Dangote in each community, with many Almajiris.

  9. You forgot to add a ridiculous rate of illiteracy to your list of vices. A friend of mine who served in the north said students are so dull there and they dnt wear footwear to school. And worse, to persuade them to come to school, they are given freebies....dats just really amazing ryt.....I mean...considering the fact that most of nigerian leaders have been northerners and an even more disproportionate portion of politicians are northerners.

  11. Apart from Boko Haram, the cause of the povery in the northern states is greed. Most of the governors have done nothing to develop their states, they just pocket the money. So don't push all d blame on Boko Haram

  32. I agree with him. Check the Northern leaders we had. What have they done for the North? Just enriched themselves. General Yakubu Gowan. General Murtala Mohammed. Alhaji Shehu Shagari. General Muhammadu Buhari. General Ibrahim Babangida. General Sani Abacha. Adulsalami. And now Buhari. 55 years of independence 39 years of Northern Rulers. Where is the North? Where is Nigeria?

    1. God bless you. Denounce Sharia education and embrace modern western education before there can be real progress in the north. Even if the north rule nigeria for ever, as long as they are still pursuing the archaic Islamic education, the north will forever remain backward

Unlike others who are in perpetual denial, The very reason why they rejected confederation system,to drag others down, Too late Shettimma, that's about to change, north or nothing

Upon all they Nigerian Money they have loot since independent in de name president. Their brothers n sisters are still dieing in poverty. They say they are born to rule. God is seeing una.
