President Buhari to set up special courts for looters

According to a report by Punch, the Federal Government might be establishing special courts to try people who have stolen from the country. Buhari may even have started plans to submit a bill on the special anti-corruption courts to the National Assembly. Sources in the know told the newspaper that the government is currently looking for fearless judges that would prosecute these corrupt individuals.

All the states of the federation will have these special courts so FG is looking for 36 incorruptible judges. A source told Punch that Buhari decided to set up the planned special courts because of the long delay by regular courts in deciding corruption-related cases.

Y ppl steal billions nd walk away freely nd an ordinary man steals 5K nd rot in jail shud be adresd or it wud b a futile efort @ d end of his administration.
More than 80 percent of Nigerians wud want to person(s) who stil frm public coffers either rot in Jail for life or be executed nd dats d onli way the country's Corruption ordeal can be solved permanently.
Wot becomes of the Special courts aftr his administration? This is the question that shud b on evry ones lips.

  16. THE URGENT QUESTIONS ARE:

    1. What become of this Special Courts aftr
    PMB's Administration?

    2. Would it solve the problem of Judicial
System made up of corrupt judges nd
    officials?

    3. How would this special courts deal with
the criminal Justice system that the elites
Have turned into a laffin stock nd made
Mess of wit state owned stolen wealth?

    4. Are the Judges bein sort aftr stil not the
Same judges that have handled Corrupt
Public fund looters all these while?

    THE RECOMMENDATIONS WOULD BE;
    1. Thorough and painstakin investigations of pubic fund looters to stand any chance of bein convicted in Courts when they are eventualy arrai
    gned.
    2. Radical Cleansing of Judicial systems to include flushin out corrupt judges nd revistin the criminal Justice laws that are either not clear or decisive in dealing wit corrupt persons.

    3. Finally, introducin strigent laws like summary execution of people who have stolen Public funds nd or life imprisonment for such persons to serve as deterrent to others.

  17. Okay if this old man likes let him put all d energy into finding looters instead of Boko Haram that is killing on a daily basis

  32. Buhari is about to make the same blunder he committed in 1984 when lawyers accused him of creating retroactive law to nail four young men who allegedly smuggled drugs and they were asked to be killed!

Are there no competent courts or laws to try looters in our statute books now? Good lawyers would now say the law is an afterthought since the laws were not in place when the looters were chopping our money.

Trust Buhari now, the only wise one who rules without SGF or ministers! We are watching.

  37. I hope this is not true. We are in a constitutional democracy and need to find solutions within the system not look to history for failed solutions. None of the 1979 politicians, Buhari sent to centuries of imprisonment saw the errors of their ways neither did it deter others from the errors of their ways. If the speed of the judiciary is too slow, reform the court rules as they have done in other judicial jurisdictions. In England we have the new civil procedure rules which swept away centuries of unproductive rules. Our thinking must be systemic rather than immediate gratification which characterises our solutions. And these solutions have been short lived. If as Buhari is seeking to do politicise a major national problem he would create a situation which will lead to our dissolution as a country. It's that serious. We have history as a mirror to see where we are going. In 1966 following the first coup, alleged corrupt leaders were killed. The result was that a section of the country felt their kinsmen were singled out for special treatment. As night follows day, any result of the special court will follow the same pattern. If Buhari's current actions are anything to go by, his good judges will be from Katisna and Durha and his kinsmen. The people they will pronunce on will be mainly from a section of the country. Their motitivations will be dubious and not trusted.
If we need lasting solutions here is the solution. Create and support institutional change to lead the fight against corruption. The fight will be systematic and institutionally led and will be blind to sectional and political interests. Any other means will be unconstitutional and short lived.
The legal means aside the political means is to end current immunity. There must be consequences to actions but legally enforceable. If Buhari believes that his elevation to power is a coup then let him continue his ways, he will end the way his previous coup ended. He is not bigger than Nigeria.

    2. Who is this center for Nigeria progress. How do U know Buhari will only make a short-term solution only and has no plan to create a long-term solution based on sanitized and empowered systems and institutions? At this stage of our national history, Nigeria needs both dimensions of solution (short and long term) plz get that fact into ur head. I see a lot of prejudice and hate in ur write up concealed under an attempt to be factual and objective. By the way how do U know this administartion of PMB will end up like his previous one? Is there something U and ur group are planning against the president? Pls go ahead with ur plans but be rest assured that U and ur group will be smashed. It's as simple as that. Thank U.

Each time I read a step of yours towards eliminating corruption, tears drip down my eyes that in my generation this sewage called Nigeria shall see sanity. Thank you so much please jail them, dont forget to amend the constitution to make corruption too expensive a risk to take.
