LIB reader recounts another traffic robbery in Lagos, shares photos

A LIB reader writes in
We were on our way from Magodo around 8pm and met stand still traffic at the middle of the road that leads to Ojota before the total filling station. There were trailers as well on the road. While in the traffic we saw two boys breaking the glass of the car in front of us.
But in few seconds they were beside our car as well and didn't wait for us to wind down before they broke the glass from both sides. It's was really terrifying. They were moving from cars to cars in two two because they were up to eight in number.

  12. I always knew Ojota was a problem waiting to escalate. during the day, u see area boys threatening and collecting money from Lorries and trailers plying that area. These boys have now expanded their business to night collections from other road users. There is a park there where they hang out during the day, not Gani fawehinmi park; its the one across the road going to Ikorodu. The traffic situation in that area doesn't help also. Police should step up their game and do something, start by clearing these boys.

  13. Yet, we have policemen acting as events/party assistants at peoples weddings.
Next, they say they need 10,000 recruits to strengthen the NPF, when all of them have become personal escorts and carry puff puff in parties, not to talk about madam's handbags and umbrella. When would our IGP and Police Service Commission attain puberty to know the right thing to do?

  16. What is this? Reason why we need more police. This 10,000 police recruitment won't change nothing. It's hightime we introduced state policing as well. God

  26. If the Nigérian government cant provide security to Its citizenry then They should make sales and license of fire arms available to the populace who can afford it. Do u think these petty hoodlums would go close to someone holding out a doublé barrel out his or her car window. They themselves nor wan die na. This is bullshit. Na only big man get gun for Nigeria, Its not suppose to be so abeg.

  33. The robbers have found traffic robbery method of robbing innocent citizens to be highly lucrative. Please we are pleading with you Governor Ambode and the Lagos State Police Commissioner kindly rise to the occasion by devising new methods of checkmating these robbers.
The protection of citizens is one of the most important duties of government but there seems to be a meltdown of governance in Lagos State. Governor please get things moving.

  34. since all security agencies have decided to do little or nothing about this traffic hoodlums i guess we have to find where to get our own teasers, pepper sprays or stun-guns!

  35. This may rather sound unserious and maybe funny, but if truth be told on these road robbery cases that we see here always, i'll say they are always very fine branded and exquisite cars owners that are victimised and would maybe advice victims to deplore the tactics of using a low class cars in order not to attract these thieves hence, especially for those who drive home late after work or leave home for work very early. Hope this advice go a long way in reducing the menace. Thank you.

  37. I experienced exact same thing, although this time around I was in the Oshodi Traffic. This happended some 3 weeks ago. I think they are literally moving from Location to Location.I hear d their top locaton is Eko bridge. This is the first time I am hearing of this spot. I think we should do more than just report these cases.,.

  38. If government cannot wake up to its responsibility of providing protection to the citizenry then people should be allowed to carry arms for self-protection. Instead of to do serious work na so so black paint dem dey carry to paint Fashola black all over the place.

  39. I think Lagos state government should deploy Police and Soldiers to where the incident kept occurring...

  43. This is just getting ridiculous now, what is Ambode doing?

  44. the yeye guy even asked you to wind down, In my case, the fool just came and smashed the glass and collected our phones and moved on. the funny thing is that we had police men on patrol on the bridge that just walked away from the crime scene. we just had to move our car away and counted our losses o before another one will happen. and I think the police guys are aware of what happens because a few days later, I witnessed another robbery just before the bridge after the lastma office of a very young girl driving in traffic, she actually came down and ran away and they pursued her and collected her items even touched her in places where they were not supposed to touch her and she was crying. then we saw a police with a gun standing by the side of the road who witnessed the whole thing just walked away from the crime scene like he was blind and deaf. Passing Oshodi now is a struggle for me

  45. Ambode has better things to do than worry about citizens getting robbed daily. Thrashing Fashola is more important to him.
