You can’t play for Super Eagles anymore if you're not in first division - Oliseh

Coach Sunday Oliseh has fired a warning, stating that he will only consider players who feature in top leagues both home and abroad.

Stephen Keshi, however was known to call up players from the lower leagues overseas. Sunday Oliseh said he wants to make changes and not do the same thing Stephen Keshi did. He said:
“If you are not playing  in first division in anywhere in the world and in Nigeria, you cannot play for the Super Eagles henceforth,”
Oliseh warned at a media presentation in Abuja on Wednesday. However players coming from the under-aged teams are the only exception to this rule.”

Oliseh said it is an honour to lead the Eagles now as a coach, but that he cannot turn around the footballing fortunes of the country by himself.
“It’s a great honour to be a coach of this nation,” he said.
“First of all, I am not coming as a Messiah. I am not coming as a man who can single handedly turn Nigeria to Germany.
“I am coming in to do my best and give if possible 150% all the time.
“The state we are now in Nigeria I think we are all not happy with. Gone are the days we have individual players who can single handedly win a match for you. But we have the potentials and that is our belief and the players must know that it’s an honour to be invited to the national team.

    1. Really! Well how about you shouldn't coach the Super Eagles if you have only been an assistant coach for a third Division Belgian team

  5. I really don't think that is a good move but it will deter players from keeping teams just for money! Mikel should take note especially with his rumored move to Turkey!!!

  27. Oliseh! The man with the intergalactic missile shot!! Congrats on your new job. I wish u well. Being a former player too in the not too distant past, I believe u know what needs to be done; cos am sure u criticised your own coach back then! Its time to do things differently!! Don't waste this golden canvas fate has presented you to paint a masterpiece with our football; an act that can permanently place u on the right side of history.

  34. Good move, you have to be the best to wear that green jersey and stop all those div 10 players bribing NFA officials.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Most of these players go down to rich oil countries and play in the lowest div, bribe NFA and get called up. Yet we want to win medals. Howww? Good move oliseh..

  37. Wrong foot forward. What was the league division of the team Sam Okwaraji was playing for ? Why hasn't England won so many of the recent world cup editions ? Knowing some of the kind of answers to likely come, why then did Spain have such a dismal outing in the last world cup ? While this 'Olise rule' might be useful as part of criteria for consideration of credentials for some, it is certainly defective and maybe professionally arrogant. This 'ti ile yi ko' (imported only) mentality is what has kept us where we are today as a people. It is why we are only errand boys /'executive clerks' for instance in the oil business.
We know all the literature of refining oil.
We have the best certificates attesting to this.
    We don't refine oil.
    We must import expertise.
But thank God for the technology for producing things like 'epo isobo'
