Photos of Barack Obama in Kenya in 1988, 1992, 2006

President Barack Obama has visited his father's homeland a few times in the past; in 1988, 1992, 2006 before his visit yesterday. His first visit was in 1988. He was on a journey of self-discovery to know more about his heritage and his father, who split from his mum 2 years after he was born.

On his second trip in 1992, he traveled with Michelle, who was his fiancee at the time. They married a few months after that visit. He wanted Michelle to meet his paternal grandmother & other extended family members.

He then visited in 2006 as a US senator. He moved around relatively freely and visited his father’s grave and his grandmother’s tin-roof house. Two years later, he became the president of the United States of America. (he's pictured with his grandmother above). More photos after the cut...

Barack Obama's father, also named Barack Obama, and mother, Stanley Ann Dunhamk

  11. Why is all of this coming into the public domain now? A veiled effort to whip "Non-compliant African continent" into accepting this Gay rights. America doesn't do things like this for nothing. Africans would be so foolish to think that Obama just simply "wants to visit" his hometown. It never happens that way in the free world.
Spare us the Gay talk, Mr Obama. African culture is too deep.

  30. This is part of my love for Obama, he never forget his root and that is what accounted for his success in life. He never blamed his father for abandoning his mother, rather he simply forgive and forget past mistakes and move on. If he had denied his root early in life it would have been used against him when the stakes is now high. I hope a lot of us will have a lesson or two to learn from Obama

  31. What a rich history. One thing I love about Obama is that he is very proud to associate with his people.

  58. This is beautiful. It saddens me when I see Nigerians here in d US treating their kids like Americans like they don't have an heritage, saying their kids shouldn't speak or relate with their tradition.

  67. I get this whole never forgetting your root, bla bla bla. We all know Obama has African heritage, his pa is Kenyan, his ma is American. We all know this, so, I don't get the fuss with all the comments. I originally don't do this, but this sure is making a mountain out of a molehill, and it really doesn't warrant such.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Also, as an African, he has behaved abysmally, crime against blacks in America has been on the rise. He did absolutely nothing for the blacks who were glad that their own was there to reign over them. He did everything that the culture of Africa forbids. I don't think he ought to be celebrated cos he hasn't behaved like the son of the soil and is an acclaimed disgrace to the black sperm that formed him

    ReplyDelete
  69. VERY HUMBLE TO THE CORE...

    ReplyDelete
  70. Nobody saw it coming. The making of a leader is usually something very funny. He gets punished, disliked, ridiculed and finally accepted by a few. then....boom.....

    ReplyDelete
  71. This is buttressing the fact that with God all things are possible.

    ReplyDelete
  72. The pictures are inspirational. Never rule out anybody in Life who would have thought that an African who truly knows his father's village will rule America. That is why it is disheartenning to hear that it's this same African (who should know and respect our values)that promotes this
anti- human and animalistic practice called gay. May God help us
