    5. Frankly, does God listen to American music which practically preach all kinds of good, bad and ugly virtues? Their music depict drugs, homosexuality, transgender, nudity, crime, gangsterism, violence and promiscuity. The inspirational and gospel singers still sing songs that reflect, lift soul and spirit.

To say God won't listen to Nigerian songs is all fallacy. Tope Alabi, Monique, Asa, Nneka, Cobhams and many others churn out good inspiring songs that make God dwell on our praises.

Shakiti Bobo is a reality song laced with a dance groovy vibes and rhythmic beats. You can't have all music to be in one direction. What I dislike about some of their songs is when it hyping women is body or when it is too explicit.

Olamide, as we all know, rep the street. He is the voice of the street, and when there is an issue he always wants to clear it. He used the song to clear the rumour peddled about his success to stardom.

Music is more appealing when it has good vibes and rhythmic beats. Yes, those songs may be lacking everything in context but can't deny a fact that they are enchanting- songs that make you want to dance and forget your sorrow.

    1. Linda, stop posting this guy's write-ups here because they are not for your pedestrian audience. That is why most of them see him as being "absurd". They are simpletons, used to the ordinary. Most of them will definitely employ words like "player hater" "failed musician" blah blah blah to tag him. They will never understand him because he writes against what most of them stand for-mediocrity. This guy is always on point. He's just too blunt for the intellectually indolent. As far as I'm concerned there's no music industry in Nigeria. What we have is a noise industry. Even the biggest of them, D'banj, is just one razz noisemaker. What exactly does he sing? Why should I listen to D'banj, Tiwa Savage, Don jazzy, Olumide, plantain boy etc, after listening to Boyz to men, BabyFace, Tevin Campbell, Donell Jones, Mc Lyte, Queen Latifa,Common, Mobb Deep,Everlast, Wu thang, etc? God forbid! I will never lower my standard. These noisemakers of ours need to step up their game.

    2. That niga na fool....he ws a singer b4 wat difference did he make then...he couldn't meet up he ran away...and now he is back 2 criticize wah he couldn't change.....eveybody must not be Adam Smith with strong lyrics or asa with inpirational tune....atimes u need somfin 2 make u shake ya body and feel happy and dts what I call music.....take 4 instance dt song ubagangna style it's just beat and the dance step dt made it unique....and the whole world know him with dt song...even in the US it ws used in one carnival and people were dancing to it....dt song has zero meaning buh it's cool...cos people like the dance step and the beat......that's y music has genres...and their is alws a time 2 play them...so nigur go find ya luck whr u lost it. And stop writing 2 get noticed.....write a novel or inspirational books maybe u wil win a noble prize....

  50. Well said sir, but d truth of d matter is d fact dat dia re little quality music makers or singers out dia, gone re those days were musicians go all d way to challenge dia selves in order to out do d other in terms of producing quality either gospel or worldly music. Every body is in a rush to sing, produce n make quick money, n dat is were quality is lost all in d name of making quick money. Its all 4 d money

    ReplyDelete
  51. No Mr Ecetera! It's 'most' Nigerian songs. Timi Dakolo does good & meaningful songs. So does Asa. So even if it's 95% of the bunch, it's still not all of it #HB

    ReplyDelete
  52. I may have to agree.. But God might wanna listen to ASA's. Oh I love her songs.

    ReplyDelete
  53. As in en! Most use auto tune to start with no real talent .. its only about ass and money...you cant blame them though thats what most Nigerians like to hear but my major problem is THEY ALL SOUND THESAME ... with an exception of few... fela...asa...2 face.. p square d banj burner boy m i and wiz kid ..its sad cos no one wants to sound or do anything different..once it works for someone everyone copies...from dance moves,,to beats its really say...infact even our so called foreign music most of them lack talent as well is just their production is way above the top...we have all experienced this on the radio...a nigerian song plays then a foreign song follows, the difference is clear.. we should start being unique and creative with music and beats instead of making music that is empty and sounds thesame... If you want to stand out you cant aford to sound like every other person..its simple thats y most Artist dont blow..I know a talented Artist that went to queens college..but she released a single hit song and an album that sounds like what we know...and it was d first and last we heard of her....

    ReplyDelete
  70. God bless this guy real good. This is one silent truth that has found no one to bare it out as decadence has revaged this generation of todays Nigerians and the world around. The days of quality music has been put behind. I remember the day my 16yr old cousin heard me play a track from UB40, she was so overwhelmed that she pressed to know which artist sang that song, but was surprised to know it wasn't any of these current generation artists let a lone Nigerian artist.
The worst is that some seem unaware that music with superior quality ever existed, while some stubbornly cling to trash music due to their crave for promiscous videos or lyrics such music comes with.
Thanks a lot etcetera, U nailed it. Many of them reading this article will for sure throw abuses at U, but that cannot wash away the undiluted truth.

  105. So music is the root of all evil? Wale Gates did the same thing trashing Wizkid's entire album off of the songs that got radio airplay. It wasn't until Gates' tweets got to LIB that I pointed out the album has some real gems in Ojuelegba, Mami Mi, Joy, etc that people started to pay attention. Maybe Etc's real gripe is the songs that make radio airplay are the most raunchy when artists have songs with better messages on their albums. That's what happened with Wizkid. His initial lead singles were crap although his album is a testimony of the love and support his mom has shown him, his trek from nothing to a life of fame and his appreciation for his life of grace today. You'd never know that from the song In My Bed that got released as a lead single. That's why I think Etcetera should be talking about how good music doesn't get heard, not how all music is bad.

  106. So spot on. The truth is that i feel ashamed most times when i dance to these songs but i guess its the beat that captivates me and not the lyrics.BTW why has ecetera stopped dishing out those lovely and rich lyrical content songs.

  110. ETC get sense. But some of those artists just drop words into beats to make ends meet. There are still a few of them, like Tuface, who think before writing and eventually singing.

  111. Etc, you nailed it! A very sick society indeed! A society that condemns good and justifies corruption...Just take a look at the comments been made on important decisions of the nation. A society where probing is termed the new witch hunting! A society where out of hatred for their leader, they prefer to suffer in silence, rather than admit to the truth. Very well said, I'm not surprise that anything good will come from people who listen and dance to such mediocrity. These songs have no morals, lack intellectual contents and grossly embarrassing to hear!
