Gen Olukolade tweets on Baga, reports on number of casualties

In a series of tweets, Nigeria Defence Spokesperson, Gen Chris Olukolade reacted to all conflicting reports about Baga, the fight to reclaim Baga, the number of civilians, military and militants killed during last week's attack by Boko Haram members.

According to Gen Olukolade, the number of deaths in Baga, both of civilians and military cannot be "creditably counted". He also added that the military cannot also count the number of Boko Haram members they killed. He says that Nigeria owns the fight against the terror group and that for best reasons known to them, Niger and Chad government withdrew their troops from the Multi Joint Task Force unit in Baga. See his tweets after the cut...

    2. I don't know if why most people are quite about this is because they or their relatives are not in the middle of all this?! I was in the middle of the Aguleri/Umuleri war in 1999 and this kind of news just tears me apart and brings torrid memories along with it! It's crazy! These senseless killings and open ignorance by our government. They make it seem like it's okay for these killings to go on! When we hear "killings" these days, do we still remember that it's a human being or more that have had their lives cut short by something they have no idea about? Human lives are being lost! Someone told me that they are Northerners so I shouldn't care too much. I almost smacked her across the face. A life is a life! Biko nu! Umu Chineke! We cannot overlook prayers at this critical point. It may seem like these killings will be curtailed to the Northern part of the country alone, but what happens when they wipe out the entire North? Do we think they will stop then? I don't think so. They will simply move camps to the next available area (under command, maybe). It is crazy how some people want us to vote for the sitting president again. Dude's been there for 6 frigging years! Can we even begin to count how many lives have been lost?! Who wants to try? Haba! I'm not saying GMB is the Messiah. Nah. But he's the next best thing. He's the undesirable that is available. Some say he was a brute, yes, under the type of government he was ruling. OBJ was a military leader as well. He was given a chance. Why can't we do same for this man? What if he wants to make amends? Funny. I don't know about ya'll but I prefer to vote for a new democratic government and see what happens in the next four years than be with a man who has "given permission" for the massacre of my brothers and sisters all over the country. In the wake of the Suleja bombing, our President, dear dear president who we have given tons of Louboutin shoes for him, his wife and avalanche  of adopted children,  said these bombings are burdens Nigerians should learn to live with. That far back. That was when I lost hope on the kneecar mhen and when I also knew he won't break a nail to save us. He gave up then. Imagine. Nigerians, please, let's not be deceived by that "youth" president again. Biko nu

  15. We had to wait days after said attack to get exert any form of acknowledgment from our government on an attack that supposedly claimed 2000 lives! And when they did, they go on Twitter, like that is a valid source of spreading information! These guys should stop insulting Nigerians, this is why I hate this present government, they take everything for granted. And like to pretend like we are all idiots! After days when their detractors must have gone about spreading propaganda about this attack, they choose Twitter to address it and our Commander in Chief is probably at Aso Rock reveling in his daughter wedding bliss. And he wants us to take him seriously?!!

  37. This man is part of the problems of the Nigerian military with his damage control speeches and partisan inclinations. For the military to restore its past glory, politicized officers must be shown the way out. Otherwise we have no military in this country. A politicized military is a weak military.
