Obasanjo rubbishes National Assembly, says it’s an assembly of thieves, looters

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, today Nov. 26th rubbished the National Assembly, saying it is an Assembly of looters and thieves. He said this while speaking at the public presentation of the autobiography of Justice Mustapha Akanbi, in Abuja. Some of what he said below...
"Apart from shrouding the remunerations of the National Assembly in opaqueness and without transparency, they indulge in extorting money from departments, contractors and ministries in two ways"
"They do so during visits to their projects and programmes and in the process of budget approval when they build up budgets for ministries and departments, who agree to give it back to them in contracts that they do not execute. They do similar things during their inquiries.”
"Corruption in the National Assembly also includes what they call constituency projects which they give to their agents to execute but invariably, full payment is made with little or no job done. In all this, if the executive is not absolutely above board, the offending members of the National Assembly resort to subtle or open threat, intimidation and blackmail. When the executive pay the huge money, normally in millions of dollars, all is quiet in form of whitewashed reports that fail to deal effectively with the issues investigated.”
"When the guard is the thief, only God can keep the house safe and secure. But I am optimistic that sooner than later, we will overcome. God will give us guards of integrity and honesty with the fear of God and genuine love of their people and their country.
“Today, there is no institution of government that is not riddled with corruption, not even the military. As the people cry out, where then is the salvation.” Obasanjo said

    5. I don’t understand how our leaders reason a times. We the citizenry are crying about the corruption that is going on in this country, yet some personalities gathered somewhere in the name of FEC approving 9.6billion to be spent on stove (stomach infrastructure) before next year election. Where are we heading to? I pity my dear country. As Nigerians, We need to act fast and safe this entity from total extinction because it has collapsed already.

When he that is talking now was distributing hard earned money/resources that could have been used to pay salaries, build infrastructures/bring development etc to legislatures to push his third term agenda he didn't know then that they were thieves right?! God will punish him n all these politicians who instead of fostering the good of this nation have sort to satisfy their own selfish interests!

  34. This is the Usual pattern of Retired godfathers in Nigerian Politricks!!! When their puppets/boys taste power and refuse to do the bidding of the master/godfather who put them in power, the godfather/master becomes a philosopher/pastor!
Obasanjo tricked Northerners with the Yaradua/Jonathan ticket, he knew Yaradua was terminally ill and at his death Jonathan would ascend the throne and he campaigned tirelessly for them.
From the word go the candidate Obasanjo was campaigning for was Jonathan but he shielded it by using Yaradua because he thought the ijaw boy that had no shoes would be his puppet, now he is accusing the "head of being bad, he (Obasanjo) has serious questions to answer because he put him there and vouched for his integrity.
Secondly Obasanjo was also a corrupt president and would have stayed for 3rd term had Nigerians not fought tooth and nail to kick him out.
Thirdly the issue of high salaries of legislators(Nigerian legislators are the highest paid in the world) started in Obasanjo's administration and as president he didn't see anything wrong with it so why is he speaking now?
Obasanjo should go and seat down jor!!he is morally incapacitated!

  35. If he is now calling them thievies and looters he is their chief because he, ibb they all started these corrupt leadership and he is coming now to give them names how did he made all his money, ole.............

  36. If they are thievies and looters he is their chief he is the one with ibb who started all this corrupt tag been use to know Nigerians all over the world now. how did he made his money onye oshi he should go and sit for one corner. 99 and half % of his money is nigeria money which he looted in the past.the rot of God and all the innocent blood he has shedded will always be hurting him.

  57. No need to use gutter language on someone who can be you grandfather. Truth be told if it wasn't for OBJ the GSM and credit your able to use to abuse him wont be possible. I was a critique of all Nigerian past leaders but when you analyse what OBJ did in his tenure you will realise thar so far he is the best Nigeria has had. Heck people were even trading in shares during his tenure. Or is it the debt cancellation. Or the huge federal reserve he left on his departure. OBJ even ordered the materials to build the infrastructure for electric, Yar'dua i heard cancelled it on assuming power we heard. So give a little RESPECT. Yeah there are leaders who eat and still produce results. Can you say that for the current president, rated one of the richest leader in the world.
Anyway regarding the HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY can we really afford to run this type of system ofgovernment. Their salary is huge and besides they are getting in the way of projects being implemented. WHY DO GOVERNORS RUSH TO BECOME SENATORS ONCE they have finished their tenure. That says it all.
OBJ IS correct and one feels the system of government practised in Nigeria needs to be abolished. Real federalism where each region is empowered and not controlled by the central (federal govt) needs to be practised.
Better yet split the country and lets develop accordingly.
NOW LINDA IKEJI PLS POST MY COMMENT. What is the point in writing comments if your not going to post. Bet you've heard that a few times pls dont be known for it. Many thanks

  75. I can't fault Obasanjo in this...
But I recall that it was during his regime that the bastardization of the NASS was inaugurated...
His regime inaugurated the GMG syndrome...
It is recalled that each time OBJ wanted to have his way with the NASS, while in office, he brooked no compunctions in spoiling them silly with dollar-stuffed GMGs....
So his new found penchant for righteous indignation against every one in government today sounds to me like playing to the gallery...
OBJ ran the most corrupt govt. in the world ever!!!!
Regardless, it isn't bad though that today the pot has awoken to be calling kettle black!!!!

  80. OBJ should kindly stop ranting or i advise he be sent to a proper old peoples home if his otta farm is not conducive to his remaining silent. He has the guts to accuse GEJ. OBJ single handedly installed yaradua and GEJ for his own selfish reasons and interests obviously because he was afraid of people he felt might "rock" the boat to his detriment on his exit from aso rock.
We all knew they were not the best options when OBJ was leaving but he imposed them .if we have anyone to blame for the problems in nigeria today it is OBJ. The sooner he keeps quiet the better for this country unless he can undo the damage he has already done . He was saved from abacha's gallows , he may not be so lucky in future if he continues in this path.

Were there is no vision the people perish.Nigeria has been so unlucky to have be governed by mediocres and political buccaners who have laboured tirelessly to bleed our national purse to death. They have colonised and appropriated our common patrimony to themselves and thier family members.political associates and apologist. If truth must be told ,Nigeria is drifting towards the precipe of economic quagmire, democratic diabetes and all forms social dislocations. Presntly we dont have a leader.
