Heavy SSS presence at National Assembly; lawmakers scale fence into complex (photos)

There's currently heavy police and SSS presence at the National Assembly in Abuja as the House of Reps reconvene today to discuss the proposed state of Emergency extension in Yobe, Adamawa and Borno state. Some people are saying that the security operatives are there to deny the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, access into the complex. A lot of other lawmakers were also denied access into the complex. Some of them are pictured scaling the locked gates to enter the complex. A Rep member shared these photos on his Facebook page to let people know what's going on. See more photos after the cut...

Sometimes i wonder if these lawmakers are really adults or kids trapped in adult bodies.Their Xena instincts is epic.BTW i wish the state of emergency in my state isnt extented. The words have lost their meaning with the emergence of BH who ridicule the security architecture of our country and unleash mayhem at the place and time of their choice.

    2. Anon 1.26pm, u must be daft! The issue is not why they r jumping the fence in apparent lack of "decorum". The question is why the gates were locked in the first place. All fingers point to our power-drunk fool of a President.

  28. And is this the job of the DSS?Shouldn't they be out gathering information on sponsors of boko haram?Mr. IG,shouldn't you be out there securing lives and properties or collating evidence to charge the thieves in Abuja to court?

  30. Apple, Tony, Moi and the rest, hear this; the gloves are off. God Almighty will destroy all those who perpetrate and support this kind of impunity. Jonathan will not be allowed to use Nigerian security forces - who we pay - to intimidate Nigerians. Surely, he will pay for this. It's only a matter of time before what he throws around comes right back.

  44. It is funny what Nigeria has now become. People should understand the constitution and not pledge allegiance blindly! The Constitution states that a member of House of Representatives or State House of Assembly if there are factions in the party the member is coming from and it is clear that the PDP has issues in their party back in Sokoto where Tambuwal comes from as even Tony Anenih was there for reconciliation. The speaker cannot lose his seat automatically coz there are factions in Sokoto PDP and he can only be removed by two-third of House of Reps memeber which has not been done. #dropsmic

    ReplyDelete
  47. This is absurd, it shows why it will be difficult to eschew violence in Nigeria, rather than scaling the fence, they can seek redress from the court, besides the speaker was nominated under the majority party's platform therefore, he is expected to resign and decamp to another political party, you can not use the gains of another to rub on the minor...Richard

  62. There is pandemonium at the National Assembly as policemen and SSS operatives stopped the speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, from entering the premises. Amid a hail of tear-gas, Tambuwal was forcibly taken into the complex by angry lawmakers protesting the action of the security personnel.

The speaker trekked from the gates to the main complex, a distance of over 500 metres. Senate president, David Mark and several senators and many reps were also delayed for hours at the gate before they finally entered the assembly. Confusion is still ongoing…

  96. Why would Mr President give a f*#k about being viewed as a tyrant... He and his merry bunch of sociopathic adversers (Politicians, in general) have Nigerians figured out. Put more than one Nigerian in a room and they can break down, analyze, and theorize solutions for our National woes... But come time for action, we all fall into one on three categories (some more than one):
    1. Cowards: cos really, we talk a good game... But dying for what we believe in is a totally different thing.
    2. Uneducated: “"Education makes a people easy to lead, but difficult to drive; easy to govern, but impossible
to enslave." — Henry Peter Brougham
    3. Sell-outs: cos we all have a price... For some, it's a bag of rice... For others, "brown envelope"
...so why won't they piss all over our "democracy"?
