"Must Christians confess to another human for repentance?" answer by a Christian mag

As the counsellor of a fast-growing Nigerian Online Christian magazine rightly comments, one common issue believers of all religions (not only Christians!) experience is the dilemma we face on a daily basis – in making the right choice between two or more alternatives.

The question in the title was posed by one “Jones” to Megas mag, an online Christian magazine here in Nigeria. This question has been of big controversy in Christendom from time immemorial. And its just important to hear an authoritys view on it. Continue...

But before I delve into the answer given by the experts at MEGAS MAG, lets discuss a little about the magazine itself…
Are you tired of reading just gossip, fashion and entertainment magazines that have nothing to do with your reality as a positive-minded Nigerian, aiming towards a better tomorrow?
Would you rather read inspiring stories, value-adding life articles, helpful and practical advice for every aspect of life - from shopping to parenting, relationships, cooking, fashion and beauty...to just about anything related to living a fulfilled, healthy and happy life?

Would you like to get the right, and deep, knowledge that helps you regularly be on par with Gods directives in everything you do – all in one spot?

Then consider this wealthy source of information by God-driven experts and experienced counselors; a platform simply called MEGAS MAG. (More about what a Megasis later.)
MEGAS MAG is a Christian magazine that stands out by virtue of its distinct qualities of:
     Trustworthy content that is biblically-based
A civil tone that communicates with conviction and love, and…
     Journalistic excellence and professional integrity
If all (or any) of these interest you, go ahead NOW, and subscribe to MEGAS MAG here, to get access to their life-enriching columns like:
Inspiration: practical self-help and productivity tips for a better relationship with God, and for being the best you can be.
Lifestyle: covers fashion (to keep you informed on the latest trends that keep you Godly yet fabulous), health and fitness, etcetera.
Entertainment: reviews and news on interesting movies, music, books and tech.
News: covers current but relevant news to keep you informed from a Christian and positive perspective.
MEGAS: inspires you with the success stories of people from within and outside Nigeria who are making it big while holding on to their faith. Now you know the meaning of MEGAS – and that you can be one too.
The Booth; offers simple and Godly advice to your challenges (faith, life, and relationship)…with the help of a team of experienced counselors, and opinions of other readers with good advice.
And this brings us back to the question…
As against the popular belief(s) of various religions, denominations and cultures – and some schools of thought – that the sacraments of confession and penance make us get forgiveness for our "mortal" sins, a counsellor in The Booth blatantly says NO; “Its not necessary to confess to a human factor for complete repentance.”
Unfortunately I cant go into details here, but the counsellor has his own valid arguments. And also tells us the only time confessing to another human is required.
Go ahead to www.MegasMag.com to read not only more on this answer (and give your opinion too), but also on various other interesting, debatable topics.
Subscribe to either the weekly or daily newsletter; or subscribe to just one or more of the columns highlighted above. However it pleases you, theres great flexibility to suit your godly information and entertainment needs.
And guess what? (This is the most interesting part); ALL subscriptions are FREE.
Only that I cant say for how long.
So head there now, and subscribe while its still free. Heres the link again; www.MegasMag.com.

    2. Shut up if u don't know what ur saying, goat! In d bible Jesus gave his disciples the power to forgive sins when he told them anyone's sins u forgive is forgiven in heaven nd now the priests have been given the same power when they were ordained

    3. And shut up nobody adores Mary more than Christ, we only give her her due respect as the mother of Jesus nd intercede thru her to Jesus when we want something just like if u want something from someone, the surest way is to go thru the mother cuz most children listen to their mother so stop talking nonsense, it's common sense!

    4. Ignorance is normally d biggest cause of misunderstanding. Catholics confess to priests cos priests are God's ordained disciples and he said to his disciples to go into the world the sins u forgive on earth are forgiven in heaven, whatever u caste on earth shall be caste in heaven.

Secondly about Mary. Jesus is rightly the one and only way to God but catholics believe Mary is a way to Jesus....catholics pray by saying help us pray or interceed for us. Throughout the bible you will read situations where ppl went to mary to ask her to help out e.g water to wine.

We catholics do a lot of things but there is always a route to what we do in the bible. However nothing is bigger than faith, that question is beyond dumb. If u hv believe that confessing to someone heals u then u r healed. God sees ur heart, he knows whether there is real remorse or whether u r genuine therefore before u open ur mouth u r forgiven

    10. U dis big mumu, I don't knw whr u got ur idea from that Catholics r wrong by confessing to a priest. You see, because it is Catholics it has suddenly become "confessing to their fellow human beings" but when it is you protestants, u name it "councelling". Now, who is fooling who? You confess to your pastors and ask them to pray 4 u so that God can 4giv u and it is not a sin. But because Catholics don't pretend. They call it exactly what it is "confession", it has become a sin. Anywhere, let's watch and see who makes the kingdom of heaven and who doesn't.

  9. It was necessary in the old testament, just as sacrifices n burnt offerings were given in atonement for sins....BUT with JESUS CHRIST as our intercessor and mediator(middle man), grace bcam available to everybdy...all u need do is ask in His name. DEPending on another man for forgiveness frm God means putting that prsn in d place of Jesus Christ which shouldn't be so... otherwise, the death of Jesus wouldn't av bn necessary. . All u need is to tap into that Grace..asking from the Father through the Son, Jesus Christ.

  21. I wish those that frown at confessing to 'made mortal' truly in their heart have a good reason for doing so other than the shame and inconvenience of telling someone else the atrocities they have committed. And don't go about saying d bible said this or that bcos the same bible also gave account of when Jesus Christ charged his disciples to go out and do his work, heal people and forgive sins telling them that whose sins u forgive, they are forgiven, and whose sins u retain, are retained. So except u do not blive that the man of God who me u go to for confession is a disciple/apostle of God then u r right not to want to go to him for confession. That being said, ignorant people will rush and crucify d Catholic church, priest donot listen to your confession to know your sins, they do in their capacity as disciples of God, and BTW they don't forgive sins, only God can forgive sins and it is all about faith. So except u donot blive God's word in john 20:23 then give your lame excuse

  34. Answer to the question is yes, we all should according to the catholic church, and as we all know but some deny the catholic church is one of the main roots of christianity. There is a prayer that actually says "confess your sins to one another, and to God.

    ReplyDelete
  35. @Annette, in the bible Jesus also told his disciples/apostles 'who so ever sins you forgive, they are forgiven and who so ever sins you retain, they are retained'. Yes confession is good for the soul. Whether or not you believe it. Your church isn't any better than the catholic church because honestly you and your pastors know nothing about it.

  40. In catholic mass, the confession is to almighty God and then to the brothers and sisters in the congregation. People should learn to speak from an informed position. One doesnt confess to the priest per se; it is a deterrent so as to keep your strength to live without sin if you know you will endure the shame of confessing through a priest. The priest will not forgive you himself; he may recommend penance.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Also, catholics dont adore Blessed Mary more than the Christ. They give Honour unto Mary. She bore the Son of God through immaculate conception and endured being the wife of Joseph who knows that he didnt father that child. She endured the crucifiction of the Christ. Does she not deserve Honour?

  42. The bible said " And if any one is sick, he should call on the elders of the church, he shall be prayed for , his sins shall be forgiven and sickness healed". Why wouldn't you then confess to your spiritual pastor. Every catholic practice is in the Bible. Stop protesting all ye protestant.

  48. "information by God-driven experts and experienced counselors" who licensed as experts. When it comes to issues of religion, faith or spirituality, no one knows the answer, much less an expect. For the ways of God are above our ways and his thots above ours.

No one is saying you cannot confess your sins to God directly neither should any one see as wrong to confess to a Priest who is acts in the person of Christ. There is a lot many do not know about the sacrament of penance but due to ignorance and pride many see it wrong.

But they do not see it wrong to go to an ordinary man or woman, family members to tell their problems, they see nothing wrong to ask a pastor, a friend to pray for them, to bless them, but question the directive or instruction of JESUS CHRIST they claim to be following when he say confess your sins to one another (James 5:16) and gave the power to forgive to his disciples (priests) John 20:23?

    See more reasons - http://michaelkrahn.com/writing/2011/08/4-reasons-you-should-confess-your-sins-to-someone/

  49. @#King get to know the truth and it will set you free. You have no idea about what Catholicism is about. There can be no true Christianity without Catholicism. It is not a one man show Church, it is the Church founded by Christ and holds the promise that hades cannot prevail against it.

It is ONE (It is united under one head Christ and her teaches are one)
It is HOLY (It's teaching makes one Holy because the head of the Church (Christ) is Holy)
It is UNIVERSAL (It is for all peoples)
It is APOSTOLIC (It was handed to us from the Apostles)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Confession doesn't necessary mean repentance, it limits and makes you at peace with yourself and God by seeking for forgiveness.(we sin everyday). The priest don't forgive but give penance which is like a prayer.
Have no time to criticize any faith. What you believe in, is what will work for you @KOKings
