Death toll now 40 in Synagogue building collapse, NEMA says

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says the death toll in the Synagogue Church building collapse in the Ikotun area of Lagos has risen to 40.

"It’s now 40 dead,” NEMA southwest coordinator Ibrahim Farinloye, told AFP by text message.

124 people have so far been rescued alive from the rubble of the building said to be a guesthouse for foreign followers of the church. The building collapsed as construction work was going on to raise the 2-storey building to a five storey building.

  8. This is really serious! I think the collapse of the building should be investigated, basically what led to the collapse, because these are Nigerian citizens that died. RIP to the dead

  19. Wow! So sad. But I've learnt that death tolls are notoriously under-counted in casualties in Nigeria, when they say 40, it could be 80.

  20. 40?! Wow that's too much but when you look at that picture and here that a hundred plus have being rescued, you know it is some miracles! I think instead of blaming the mysterious plane, SCOAN should look in-house at the construction, it could be at the rot of the problem.

  25. And they are blaming the airplane. Ask any architect, u don't use the foundation of a two storey building for a 5 storey building. It needed modification

  26. odiegwu o I just think is the pressure from adding more storeys that collapsed the building.
