Oby Ezekwesili detained and later released by SSS at Abuja Airport

Former Minister of Education and #bringbackourgirls convener Obi Ezekwesili, was this morning detained by SSS agents at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as she tried to leave the country for London.

Mrs Ezekwesili immediately took to twitter to announce her detention. She said she was heading to London to appear on the BBC Hardtalk programme but was prevented from boarding her flight by security operatives who confiscated passport. She was later released and allowed to board her 8a.m British Airways flight. See her tweets after the cut...

  32. If the Truth be told Mrs Obi Ezikwesili's Campaign is no more clear, the hidden part of her agenda is a lot more than what we can see. She probably, was pursuing a just course initially, but right now that course has long been overtaken by her partisanship with the GEJ Government and her affiliation with the Nigeria’s Islamic Political Party (APC) and her quest for intellectual appraisal with her Boss at the World Bank - Nigeria's Minister of Finance, Dr. Okonjo Ngozi Iweala.

  76. I'm sometimes surprised at the way we view things. There has been so much condemnation of what Oby is doing. I think most people are missing the point, she's putting pressure on the authorities to ensure the return of the abducted girls and we are saying she is seeking attention, she failed as a minister, she was PDP etc. The question is, are girls missing? have they been rescued? do we want them back? Honestly, apart from Bringbackourgirls campaign, who else is talking about this abduction? Some girls were kidnapped the other time and no one said anything, now some1 is talking and we are casting aspersions. I sometimes feel we deserve what we get as a country.

It is indeed very unfortunate to sit and read about comments made by most people on this blog.Anyone who criticizes a government now does so because they do not have a government appointment. If she were a minister now, we will criticize her ministry for non-performance.Now she is asking the government to be accountable we say she should be quiet because she does not have an appointment. People like her do not need a government appointment. Governments should be grateful to have her on their cabinet. Those making such derogatory comments, what have they done to demand for the release of the Chibok girls?Nothing!!!...But the few who are courageous to dare the government and demand accountability are called names and disrespected. The only way we can begin to change our country is if each one of us becomes an Ezekwesili in our own environment. Gradually the whole country will begin to change.

  83. They have every right to ask her questions just like they do to everyone once in a while. Who does she think she is? Bloody attention seeker.
Instead of us all to band together like every civilised nation does in times of trouble, she has decided to be a torn in our flesh. If she was indeed detained, she wouldn't have made the flight and heaven would not fall. Rubbish.
