Photos: Doctors protest at FMC Owerri over unpaid wages

Doctors at Federal Medical Centre Owerri today protested over unpaid wages and said they will soon embark on indefinite strike. The doctors complained that the FMC management has formed a habit of not paying salaries and entitlements, and with so many deductions when they eventually pay.

Someone in the know said the residents haven't been paid September 2013 salary. The house officers who worked for 3 months received payment for only two months with so many deductions. They say this is not fair considering the health hazards they are exposed to on a daily basis and the fact that they are always away from their families on call only to have their salaries cut in half. See more pics from the protest after the cut...

  2. What kind of country is this that things seem not to work? I don't know why Doctors would not been paid their salaries. These are the kind of cases EFCC should be investigating.

This country is just a huge joke. We take little things for granted and before we know it - they become unresolved issues that we now have to live with.

  14. They are fond of that. I don't know why someone (CMD) will study medicine and want to be wealthy at the same time by chopping people's salaries. There is politics, Engineering, banking and the likes. These greedy doctors in charge are spoiling the good name of medicine. Why will u not pay workers when FG has already sent the money?. There is God oo.

  41. This is the height of irresponsibility.
This is why nurses now want to be CMDs.
This CMD that is with-holding peoples salaries, what does she intend to do with it?
Thats how hired assassins killed her daughter some yrs ago in an attempt to kill her for stealing peoples salaries, one would feel that by now she would have repented of such acts!

  47. C'mon doctors Facebook is not sufficient to expose the excesses and insensitives of the so called Dr Angela Uwakwem the FMC CMD who happens to have squandered your salaries in pursuit of another term to continue to rule FMC.
You guys should petition to EFCC and the FG ministry of health to lay your complaints that is if these means have not been explored. Use all other media options sahara reports etc to expose this evil woman. Sadly when 2 elephants are fighting the grass suffers every sensible person knows that you guys are the work force of any health facility. Without you guys the patients suffer. Gudluck.

  48. FMC is an Fg responsibility not Imo state govt. Allocation has already been given to this greedy insensitive woman Dr Angela Uwakwe who unfunfortunately has held the hospital at ramsom like Boko Haram has held Nigeria for some time now. She used ur money /salaries to bribe politicians like Iwuanyanwu, Pius Anyiam and others. The keep blind eyes to the needs and problems of the staff and patients of that hospital. Shame
