Here's the question and please answer sincerely. You're on holiday in a foreign country (by yourself) and you miss the last train (midnight) that would have taken you back to your hotel. You're left with only two options; 1. Sleep by yourself at the train station (with no one else around) till daybreak or 2; lodge at the only hotel around the train station...unfortunately its a five-star hotel and the cheapest room there is $2,000 (N320k a night). Bear in mind that you're a regular salary earner...you don't even earn up to N300k a month...but the train station is notorious for violent attacks and is close to a dangerous hood. Which option would you take?

At least, if you get in trouble, you can shout help and may bet some from the hotel security. $2000 is a lot for one night, i am sure the hotel has taxi services as well, and would cost you less than $200 to get one to take you to your supposed hotel.

In Europe alone there's an affordable hotel in close proximity to the train station, this is to allow low salary earners afford to lodge in the hotel. But I guess to answer your question it is best to sleep at the train station or call a cab to take you to another cheap hotel (there's internet so you can definitely browse for one)

it's a five-star hotel, so at least there will be tight security set-up. if they won't allow a passage of the night in their reception then sleep close-by to the hotel where if there is disturbance by the hoodlums you can easily run to the protection of the security guards. or better still call a car hire service that you know to come pick you up at least that will be reasonable and affordable. there can be no other luxurious option for that night...

If I feel sleepy I doze off and on. Stroll around small, read a magazine, go to the bar which they will have, at least burn like $100 its better than that train station. All na brain you need. And don't forget they work 24hrs, so u will survive till like 5am then find your way.

ReplyDeleteWhy are u talking like a learner? Train station in foreign country has security, and they will not lock the platform gate in till they are sure the last soul is out of the station. If train stop working, their is always cab around to take u where u want. The cab run 24hrs. UK experience. Linda are u a learner!

The hotel will have a bar. Having 3-5 drinks over the course of the night is a cheaper and safety option.
ReplyDeleteLeave the train station for sure..I'll camp at d reception area of the hotel...or even there car park...or il take a taxi to d nearest cheap hotel. I may not have $2000 to spend for the night but I will have some money to take a taxi..but whatever I do..I WiL NEVEr sleep in the train station..

ReplyDeleteLinda its no big deal, get into the hotel and look for their porters corner and crash for the night or sit @ their lobby and pretend to be working/waiting for someone, when ts late they'll personally offer u a corner to crash cause they dont want u to get into wrong hands, thats why ts always necessary to dress appropriately all times cause they can differentiate an ashi, from a craze woman and a sincere stranded woman
