Pics: Police prevent Gov. Amaechi from entering Government House

Another crisis is brewing in Rivers State. Early this evening, the convoy of the governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi was prevented from using one of the two entrances to the Government House in Port Harcourt by a team of police. The governor's convoy was stopped by four truck loads of policemen as it made its way through the private gate of the governor's official residence. The policemen, led by several senior officers, claimed they were acting on orders from above.

After about 45 minutes of arguing, which included Governor Amaechi himself coming down from his car to speak with the policemen, the governor's convoy had not choice but to leave and take another road to access the main entrance into the Government House. See more photos after the cut...

  16. This is impunity of the highest order and it is not healthy for our nascent democracy.
Government shoud give room for healthy opposition and don't try every means to suffocate them.
How secured id Rivers state now when the chief security officer is not in control of the Police in his state.

  51. Our "humble" Goodluck Ebere Jonathan is now a tyrant. He keeps reaffirming his status as a tyrant everyday, He's handling the crises in his party poorly. At times I wonder if he secretely has military background.how can you sack ministers that had on-going projects just because of your "beef" with their governors??, lock a governor out of his own house?? 2015 shall tell! I'd have to be high of marijuana to vote for the "man with no shoes". There is not humility in his governance

    ReplyDelete
  52. Whoa, old PDP is still strong. Guess Amaechi isn't a governor again. Y would he be refused from entering the Gov. House via his normal route, he's now a commoner.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Power pass power. Jonathan is really showing Amaechi that the the latter is no more in charge in Rivers State. Only God knows where all these will end. Anyway, we never for one day had true democracy in Nigeria so one should not be surprised. In this country, only might is right

    ReplyDelete
  68. Seriously, whats up with this drama, the president should stop this unnecessary show of power, later he will make a public speech of not been aware of this. Instead of trying to rid the country of corruption,he is fighting for election coming up in two years.
    I pity this country.

  78. Biko Linda it's a lie! I live in old GRA. This Amaechi no dey try sha. There are several routes to the Govt House and Amaechi rarely uses the route. For Amaechi to have taken that particular route on a day when d police sealed off the factional pdp secretariat is just to cause trouble and as usual sensationalize his stories. But you know what someday the truth will be exposed and those who sow the seeds of discord and disunity shall reap same.

  79. Things re gettin serious......woundering who order doz men to do so

  80. Is this meant to be an issue? So there is a main entrance. Why was he not taking it? And when he found out that the other entrance had be sealed off, why bother challenging the orders of security operatives when he didn't use the right option in the first place? He is a governor, not above the law and answers to the people as well.

    ReplyDelete
  81. The amount of abuse democrazy has suffered in Nigeria, especially this GEJ dispensation is appaling. All this rubbish stemming from an election Amaechi won! BTW WTF is governor's forum but another avenue to squander national and fiscal resources. Hmm I fear for the future of Nigeria! It is not looking good AT ALL! The levels of lawlessness on all levels is unbecoming. Yesterday I read that soldiers beat up their superior in Borno! Nigeria is being dragged in the mud like a 2 bit criminal in the eyes of the international community, I am sure they'd be amazed at the happenings in this here country. Lesser things as this have inspired coup in other countries, sad thing that our military has been neutered. A military dispensation right wouldn't be half bad, in fact it is the same. I SMELL A REVOLUTION AND WHEN IT COMES THERE WILL BE BLOOD! This people should know we Nigerians have had enough.

    ReplyDelete
  82. And we say we run a democracy? This is a bloody authoritarian government and has the handprints of our clueless president, his wife and Nyesom Wike. How can you insult the office of a state Chief Executive. This is arrant none sense

  105. Linda its very true, cause I was there before the Governor came, one of the policemen told me they saw some people hoisting the Nigerian & PDP flags in front of the building that severed as the campaign office for the Gov during the last election, so they received a call informing them that Ameachi & the new PDP members want 2 use that place as their own Secretariat. So they were asked to stop the Gov & his led faction of the party. My dear the blockage started from 1pm in the afternoon oooh, I had to park my car on the road & trekked to my house that was after l had spent over 3hrs there walting 4 them 2 search me b4 passIng .

  113. This is a complete example of irresponsible people leading responsible men, I wonder how GEJ and his cohorts want Amaechi to effectively perform his duties as an executive Governor of rivers State or want us to vote his failed government back into the presidential seat in 2015 when he have not stopped engaging the Governor in this show of shame. Jst tired of this country and the so-called leaders who see politics as a do or die affair, who intimidate those they are suppose to be leading and even the leaders that are under them e.t.c.

  118. The police did not block Amaechi. Govt House, PH has 3 gates. The official gate is along Azikiwe Road. Amaechi and his crowd refused to use that official gate because he wanted to be in the news. The 2nd gate is near the RS Secretariat and it's open. There is the third gate which is along Forces Avenue, which is a private gate or better still, an escape route. On the same forces Avenue is where Amaechi opened a parallell PDP Secretariat in defiance of a court order. Police blocked the portion of the road where the illegal secretariat is located to avoid a breakdown of law and order. The point blocked by the police is a great distance of about 300 meters from the 3rd gate of GHPH and there are many other streets cutting off that blocked point. Amaechi clearly wanted to defile the police and that is why he and his crowd passed through the point where the police blocked the road. When he got to the blocked road, he wanted to show that he is a superman and he challenged the police. The police refused to unblock that spot and he later went to follow the main gate which is the proper gate.

This is so wrong, after they'l say its Amaechi that is looking for trouble, but its clear now that jonathan is d person picking fights. Jona, jona, be careful oh, face ur duty as D̸̸̮̮̃ president and stop all dis roforofo fight with a governor. U ® descending so low by doing this, cos i Know was orchestrated by u and ur toe lickers. Linda post ♍γ̲̣̣̥ comment oh!

  157. Not much serious comment since the whole issue is not about development and governance but incurable lust for power as a means of self preservation and aggradisement.

  170. Amaechi deserves all d humilation he is getting. Stella just imagine ur own brother from ur own region betraying u. D notherners who are blowing this trumphet for him to be disrespectful and rebellious to the president will never ever leave their own brother and conspire with a southerner . That's why the hausas claim they own d Govt cos they r united politically that d south. He is lucky its not obj remember wat happened to all who opposed 3rd term (daisy danjuma and co) they all dint return to power as senator or in any field they were serving. Its called politics.

Can the IGP bar Mr. President from entering his Aso Rock office??? We need to learn how to do things right in this country. We are in a democratic dispensation for Christ's sake!
