ASUU begins nationwide strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) yesterday Monday July 1st commenced indefinite nationwide strike. ASUU national president Dr Nasir Isa Fagge told newsmen yesterday that they are embarking on the indefinite strike because 'The Federal Government reneged in the Memorandum of Understanding MoU signed with ASUU in 2009 to pay lecturers their earn allowance.'
"The strike starts today (Monday) and it is going to last for as long as the Federal Government wants it. The Federal Government has refused to implement some of the issues contained in a 2009 agreement it had with us. What we are demanding as the earned allowance is not more than N12, 500 per person, yet government is saying it cannot afford such." Fagge said
According to Fagge, the Federal Government, in 2009, promised to pay lecturers N12,500 per month as earn allowance but never did. The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, are also on strike

  4. SMH! And what's most appalling about all this is the fact that its the students that suffer this more.

    NUPENG - Striking since 1990.
    ASUU - Striking since 1980.
    NEPA - Always on Strike!

ASUU on strike, ASUP on strike, oil & gas workers(NUPENG) on strike...Very soon Nigeria itself will be on strike too! What a country!

Here, people are discussing a salient issue and you are busy condemning a religion, giving 'facts' you have no prove of. Islam for the umpteenth time is a religion of peace and forever it will be. No muslim in his right senses will kill any innocent person unjustly. Killing of innocent person is one of the greatest sins (as defined in the Qur'an) anybody can commit. If you hate Islam and muslims, please do not blackmail us, we understand there's in-balance in life. You can't expect everyone to like you, no matter how hard you try, definitely who will not like you will not. Take time to read the Qu'ran and find the truth yourself. Islam states categorically there's no absolute freedom in life, and this is against the ideology of the west, the main reason for all these attacks..sponsoring terrorism and blackmailing the muslims. The truth is, in the end, Islam will preva

They go on strike at the drop of the hat, what are they giving in terms of educational development ,can they tell us about just one technological breakthrough from any of our universities. They are more interested in 12,000,ole. I expected them to embark on strikes to demand for research grants ,not some crappy allowance ,foolish oliver twist, always asking for more

  91. Why are they going on strike after all they are enjoying fringe benefits disturbing all our babes, having free sex in their offices for marks . Government should ignore them this time ,some of this idiots are not even qualified to teach so what the heck ,Assu or Assup should find a place to park ,shior

    ReplyDelete
  92. Government should invoke the work to rule labour clause which states that you will not be paid if you don't work, what rubbish ,they always look for the flimsiest excuse to embark on strike. The hallmark of a good labour leader in Nigeria is to embark on strike regardless of the need ,foolish people

  93. Most of this useless lecturers are using government time to engage in private practice in the private universities, a eery unethical behavior, yet they are demanding for 12,000 naira,it's high time the government makes certain demands from this so called teachers who sleep with anything in skirts in return for marks
