Couple who posed as bride & groom at age 4 still going strong at 91

Ron and Eileen Everest at age 4 (left), on their wedding day in 1943 (center) and in 2013 (right)
Ron and Eileen Everest never knew a world without each other. They were born in the same hospital – he in 1921, she in 1922 – and were friends practically from birth.

As 4-year-olds, they posed as bride and groom in a pretend wedding at a carnival. Later, barely out of their teens, they married for real.

And this year, 87 years after that old photo was taken, the one they fondly refer to as their first wedding rehearsal, the British couple are celebrating their platinum anniversary after 70 years of marriage.

"We have been in love from the age of zero," Ron tells the Telegraph. "We were born in the same maternity hospital – we might have even been born in the same bed."

It wasn't fate, necessarily. In fact, Eileen took some convincing before she eventually agreed to marry Ron in 1943.

"I did not think much of Ron at all," she tells the Daily Mail. "But I did think he looked handsome in his Navy uniform. To be honest, I liked the look of the uniform more than him."

But 70 years after their wedding day, they can look back and see just how special their bond has been.

"We have had our ups and downs, but we have always got on," Eileen says.
Adds Ron: "We promised to love, honor and obey – and I did all the obeying."
Anyway, there's no backing out now. As Eileen says: "I think we will stay together forever."

"Adds Ron: "We promised to love, honor and obey – and I did all the obeying"

  121. I come from a family of divorcees . Divorce reigns right from my great grandma, grandma and now my mother. My hubby not only comes from a polygamous family but his daddy and uncles have children scattered everywhere with different mothers.
Hubby and i got married by God's grace. It was tough.Opposition everywhere for no damn reason. We begged, reasoned and pleaded to no avail. We finally got married without our family members knowing it. We took our witnesses and had a court marriage only.Talk of a crazy step.
Linda it is not always easy being only two of you against the world .
When i saw this picture, i felt very moved and encouraged.

God will only help us because we are more than bent on making it work for us and our two daughters. My husband and i both come from dysfunctional families which had terrible impacts on us. i can still see the trauma in my husband when he recounts certain issues. sometimes he cries.
Our marriage is condemned to succeed and we shall grow old and still in love IJN. No turning back.divorce is not and will never be an option to us.

Thank you Linda #teary eyes and runny nose#
May God bless you with a man of your own who treats like the queen u really are. Big HUGS

  126. How long they've been together is not really a function of how well they've stayed together. If you've lived amongst the British you will know how much they hate negative media, hence the need to cover up their true lifestyles. No wonder a lot of Nigerians are suffering from the "suffer in silence" syndrome passed on by our colonial masters.
If the case is that they have actually been truly in love the whole time, I tap into their blessings for my marriage and all marriages that are going through trials.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I have 2 friends I believe would turn out like this.. Alex(contagious) and Viv(poizn).. They have been together like forever and they aren't married yet but I know they can pull this through! Love is surely a wonderful thing.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Wow, true love.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Meeehhn.......the secret I think is,they don't take each other too seriously.I.e.they are frnds that play and poke fun at each other.......u can see it frm the interview sef.

2)She's the domineering type.kind of.that knows what she's doing and her husband is willing to be carried along.its marriages like this that last. Not a headstrong man!

I'm not saying its good for women to be too domineering
But truth is,when a woman is strong.and a man loves her and trusts her judgement.he is willing to follow some of her decisions n he won't want 2 do things to hurt her.not cos he is afraid but for love.

    Such marriages last.
    Sadly tho.(4 men)

    ReplyDelete
  130. this is a clear proof that love can last forEVER
