Gov Okorocha to pay N1m for information on crimes in Imo State

If you provide security agencies in Imo state with info regarding hideouts of kidnappers and armed robbers, the government of Imo State will pay you N1million.

If you return pistols, you will receive N50, 000 and if you return AK 47 rifle, you will be paid N200, 000.

The governor of Imo State Rochas Okorocha announced this yesterday at a stakeholder's meeting, saying that N100, 000 million will be deposited in a bank to start off this reward programme, which was created to reduce criminal activities in Imo state.

Will it work?

  7. NEW CRIMINAL In IMO STATE27 April 2012 at 23:35

What if I report 10criminals. Would they giv me 10million cos I know plenty. I would even report my self :d. Ol'boy see correct business

  8. Okay, so let's think this through; if some guy from the street purchases a gun for one tenth of the money, and takes it down to the police station to hand in, would he be qualified to receive the reward money?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Linda report me. We would share d money 500k/500k

  10. First, he's paying school children money and now this!

As much as i understand that he's trying to help and also stand out among his colleagues, the reality of this venture still comes down to MONEY! Where in their budget is this included? Are they generating it from tax?

In as much as i think this is laudable, we all know how Nigerians love to abuse things. Guys would probably start setting up 'mock' kidnappings to claim the money.

  15. Do u guys seriously think that if you (for example) take a gun 2 a police station they will just say "thank you sir, here is your money"? They will certainly question you about the source of the gun and believe u me,if you talk rubbish u are going down.

  16. If I buy an AK-47 for twenty thousand naira and turn it in to d police, dat means i will be getting 200k? Omo see legit business.

  17. 4 some commentators, Gov. Rochas wealth is way beyond Imo State money. It is highly possible cos he has been a philanthropist.

  20. NYC-1 says: Gov Rochas mean well for Imo state. Here in New York, we have similar programs. Inasmuch as the program is good, implementation is where the challenges lies. Isn't it NPF Owerri Command who are going to implement the program? In light of this, IT WILL NOT WORK, PERIOD.

Gov Rochas is a noble man and I pray God Almighty to sustain and protect him. But, the program will not work. Those Command guys love money so much that they would ambush anyone such money is paid to.

I will advice the Gov to start a program that will benefit pregnant women and premature deliveries. Let NPF Owerri Command do their job; they probably know where to find the bad guys; but, they will not go after them bcos they benefit from such activities.

  21. Let's look at it this way ...In every gun returned 10 lifes are saved in Nigeria not only in IMO STATE.THANK GOD FOR JESUS

  25. @kelechi for you information the guy is worth over 500million usa dollars, made on his own. According to his asset declaration before he became a gov, his company is worth a lot. He just entered office in 2011, and look what has achieved, offering free education and now trying to stop crime, I hail him. So kelechi no talk wetin you no know.

  26. Why are we such optimists, am not saying his ideas will or will not work, but lets be real, he is trying something... thats more than can be said of the best and most of current Nigerian Governors. New idea requires real faith; if this doesn't work, then we can welcome new ideas. Why is it that Nigerians are so good at badmouthing someone else from the comfort of their homes when they can't even come up with an alternative ideas themselves. Would you rather he stuff his offshore bank account with that money?
Don't badmouth if you don't have better option. Have some confidence in your leader and maybe, just maybe this ideas might just work!

  27. all these eastern states...am proud of them.
Dont know wat the southwest be using their budget for.
It might work. They tried it in cleveland (thou you get only like $200 for returning your gun) but it helped.

point is, he is not stagnant. If it fails, we know he tried.
    I hope it goes well

  28. why not get these bastards jobs.... rubbish initiative.

  29. It will be nice if people can just give free information regarding criminal activities, thats the way crimes are solved, people giving leads to the police, and police working efficiently with the leads that they have.In America they say" if you see something, say something"

  30. Kponkwem!!!! Oga Roach, u r dealing it with an issue that is bigger than these patch patch ideas. Social reform and a structured and transparent system of progress coupled with endless hope and you will get people to value their lives and stop toting AK47s. GO figure how to make dat work with your yeh yeh dunder head lead poisoned cabinet.

  31. Please I'm in love with this guy cos he cares about his people, Much better than other governors that have come through IMO state.
I guess we just have to wait and see what he's gonna do with the state cos Imo state needs a miracle.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Kelechi what kind of stupid question is that?Rochas hardly uses government fund for anything,he has been a multimillionaire/billionaire right from time. He is one of the very few governors not relying on the coffers to run the state and if you go to imo state now,he is really doing a splendid job.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Rochas has been a philanntropist since the early 90s. Doling out plenty of cash for laudable causes. I'm pretty sure most of the money he uses for these projects are from his pocket. Nigeria needs more people like this man.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hmm...the whole free education thing hasn't totally worked yet and he is doing this? He said students shouldn't buy books, that he'd buy for them. One term is gone and the students are still reading their heads! I think he keeps biting off

  36. Some of the comments here, na wa. What sense is there in this scheme? All these na publicity stunts wey no go head.

Of course it won't work eventually. Some of the comments here already has exposed the weakness in it as it's easily manipulated.

Rochas if you are serious put in place a more proactive approach. Use most of that money to train a corps of detectives that can easily ferret infos on, identify and arrest criminals. Then ensure financial security for them. Before long results will start coming in.

  38. Imo is poor with multiple unemployed graduates. If jobs are there the kids will be happy and drop the arms, if politicians and old money bags stop funding criminal activities, then there will be none. Drop a gun, get the money and restock! This is nonsensical but we are watching!

  39. My dearest Gov has the money 4it oo so don't even shout"loot"come to Imo and see his works, and for the people that want to buy guns and show the police,I pity your lyf oo cos u mite juz end up in the cell as a criminal

How many people are in d state Y can't he use d money to help better the lives of youths, build free work shops they can all benefit from.even if he gives everyone 1mil each sef d money will remain its better than this dumb idea.

  54. might work o, but i prefer jobs to raw cash, all they need is to keep the arms-for-money transfer going steady. God will help him with wisdom.

  55. Dont ask if it will work, ask how cam we make it work? This is unpredented in this country if I am up to date the news. This has worked in countries all over the world, why should Nigeria be different. We should start asking how do we replicate good things in this country, afterall the bad has no problem manifesting itself.

Where was this man educated, are there no serious schools in iboland?
KMT ....Linda dearest i'm getting to the point where your blog is depressing me. Lol. For real, apart from the fact that you seem to be posting Igbocentric topics more regularly, which I have to be honest many people are noticing, there does seem on a more general scale, a serious despondency in the apparent brain matter of our country men...I digress, please post stories of Nigerians doing good things worldwide and at home balance things out.
Until Nigeria divides officially, please maintain an unbiased journalistic sense of duty and let us know of some good (maybe hard to find) hausa people and show us some pictures of nice, descent beautiful yoruba people.
bored.com of you 2squareds and Eni Indos ...I beg.
its you prerogative though, if you like don't post this....
Back to this Idiot politician...he obviously wants to bankroll his crooked family members, if you say you're paying them for informing then that would appear legit. Ole! Tief!
