Being verified on twitter simply means having your twitter account authenticated. It's not for everybody, it's mainly for celebs, high profile persons etc. The idea is that if you get your account verified, nobody would be able to impersonate you on twitter.

It is not compulsory to have ur acct verified. If u r popular or high profile, u need to have ur acct verified so as to eliminate people impersonating you and probably duping other pple using twitter. That's d significance of d blue icon. You think say dem be local champs, u wan begin tell us as u neva take reach naija for 15yrs like that is some enviable feat, by the way none of of those ladies live in Naija and yet with our limited access to cable TV and all that media obsession abroad a lot of us here in Naija still knows them very well. If you claim to live abroad and well grounded in entertainment and fashion, then you will be worse than a slowpoke if you don't know oluchi at least.....wetin u wan form sef..lol

Twitter needs to verify many more of our high profile people, those located on the continent ,not just those living abroad.....They are cautious about it understandably, but it will happen. Besides social media is fleeting, twitter today, something else tomorrow, so its all a silly business anyways.
