  14. FYI
The award started in 2010 after France Football's Ballon d'Or and the FIFA World Player of the Year award were merged. The winner of the inaugural 2010 FIFA Ballon d'Or was Lionel Messi who then went on to reclaim the title the following year.

Congrats to Merciless Messi. He needs to win something with Argentina to be really up there.

  15. I agree with linda. Platini won the award, three times in a row when the award was not open to footballers outside europe.imagine wat would have happened if the likes of maradona and other south ametican greats during his era had competed with him. So, saying he was europe's best for those three years is correct but messi has won it, with the entire footballers around the globe in contention. Who says messi is not the first to win the world footballer of the year award three times in a row? LONG LIVE KING LIONEL ANDRES MESSI.

  19. BBC Sport's South American football correspondent Tim Vickery believes the best is yet to come from Argentina and Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, who on Monday became only the fourth player to be named the Fifa player of the year award for a third time.

  20. This he deserves it, but the last one was hijackd, cos wesley snielder or xavi was suposd to win the last one..if reali is judged by the team that wins the champions league or the world cup, which they have being doing in the past. FIFA IS FUCKD JUST LIKE C.A.F.

  21. It is not a small feat to win it three times in a row.He is no doubt the current best player in the world and is on his way to becoming the best player ever to emerge on the surface on the earth. Pele and Maradona should watch out.

  22. Messi is a guru in football jaree, deserves it. C.Ronaldo will win when he stops wanting to be the one always scoring the goals, plays selfish footbal as far as am concerned.
