Nigerian Women Among Victims of Gang Rape by Libyan Rebels in Refugee Camps

When the sun sets on the refugee camp for black Africans that has sprung up at the marina in this town six miles west of Tripoli, the women here brace for the worst.

The rebels who ring the camp suddenly open fire. Then they race into the camp, shouting "gabbour, gabbour" - Arabic for whore - and haul away young women, residents say.
"You should be here in the evening, when they come in firing their guns and taking people," one woman from Nigeria said Wednesday as she recounted the nightly raids on the camp. "They don't use condoms, they use whatever they can find," she said, pointing to a discarded plastic bag in a pile of trash. As she spoke, other women standing nearby nodded in agreement.

Please these women need to come back home. Nigeria is not so bad that they'd rather be refugees in Libya than free souls in their country. #what'sthat?

This is so scary that the people that are to defend us are the people that murder without blinking. If indeed the people murdered here are boko haram members, shouldnt they be tried 1st b4 killing (if they are killed) why murder people in cold blood just cos u can.

    So scary

  11. I am not blaming them for what is happening, but I have to wonder why they remained in Libya when even natural born Libyan citizens fled in droves looking for safety. We have to use our commonsense when we see trouble in our path. Did they think these ppl would treat them humanely? Black ppl have never been treated humanely by other groups so when you see shit going on around you in a strange land, run.

Black people should always remember that the vast majority of non-black ppl do not respect, like, or favour those with black skin. Even the freaking East Indians and others who are themselves dark skinned look down on black people. So when trouble happens they better believe they will be helped last, and treated like shit first.

I feel for these women, being a woman myself I cannot even imagine how such a violation by multiple men night after night would affect me. I can pray, but truly prayer can only go so far. The govt needs to come up with some exit strategy for them. If they even have to negotiate with the rebels to let them walk to Niger, or some other neighboring country and pick them up at the border.

  14. I pity their situation 'cos I can imagine the brutality in having sexual intercourse with people in such a cruel manner but I also think we should blame these victims as well, the FG provided for their airlift some months ago, a friend came home through this what were these people waiting for untill this situation got this deteriorated? I pray God save them.

He said a lot of Nigerians were running into hiding cos they didn't want to leave Libya. Can u imagine that? Not that I am glad over their predicament cos am a woman and I can imagine wat they r going thru but lest face it, they had it coming. We can only pray for them

  17. sometimes Nigerians can be so shameless. is Nigeria so bad that you have to run to another person's country, not even fearing for your own life? SHAME! we know how Blacks are looked at by those IMMIGRANTS INTO AFRICA that call themselves Arabs. MTCHEWWW!
Nigerians are everywhere, and sometimes its a bit embarrassing. PLEASE.

  19. @14ME, yes as far as the govt is concerned, no Nigerian is in Libya cos they sent rescue planes over there months ago to bring all Nigerians home, its not the govt faults if some of them went into hiding cos they think their country is so bad that they can't survive here and will rather die in another man's country!....Meggy
