Oprah's Mom Upset About Barbara Walters Interview

Remember when talk show queen, Oprah Winfrey, sat down with Barbara Walters and said that her best friend Gayle King was like the mother she never had? [click here if you missed it]. Well her mum saw it too and wasn't happy about it.

From the National Enquirer

OPRAH WINFREY's ailing mother ravaged after her famous daughter humiliated her in front of a TV audience of millions, say insiders.

Not only did the talk-show diva confess to Barbara Walters that she wasn't close to mom Vernita Lee - she went on to gush about best pal Gayle King, referring to her as "the mother I never had."

"Vernita is devastated," divulged a close family friend.

"It was the final straw after years of insults and betrayals. She just doesn't understand why Oprah still has to be so cruel to her."

Vernita, 75, was said to have been "so proud" when she sat down to watch the Walters interview at her Milwaukee condo.

"But her joy turned to tears and embarrassment as Oprah described her friendship with Gayle," maintained the friend. "Vernita knows she wasn't the perfect mother, but she loves Oprah, and she is hurt by the way her daughter put her down in public.

"Vernita says Oprah keeps bringing up the fact that she was the result of a one-night stand, that Vernita didn't protect Oprah from abuse or help her when she was raped when she was 9 years old .

"She wishes Oprah would forgive her after all these years."

Vernita, who suffers from high blood pressure, diabetes, blurred vision and kidney problems, tried to build a stronger relationship with Oprah over the years, but her efforts have been hampered by the fact that she doesn't even have her daughter's private phone number!

  1. No doubt Oprah has been very succcessful in her chosen career and has achieved a lot in her life...I think she has some deep rooted emotional and psychological issues..that only God can heal..she needs to learn to forgive her mum..that cant be easy ..but its a start..to the healing and complete freedom from all the hurt and pain she has had to face in her life...she needs let go of the bitterness..I always see sorrow in her eyes ..that woman needs God in her life.....

  2. I know it's important to forgive, but the reality is that Vernita Lee was a terrible mother. If Oprah hadn't become so successful, would she care whether or not Oprah still hampered feelings of anger within her?

When you are a child that is when you need your mother the most - and if her mother looked looked the other way when the above was happening - I don't blame her for not being close to her.

  4. what part of forgiving means forget?
if Gayle has shown more than expectable support to her she should not give her appropriate thanks because of her absentee mother's feelings? are you kidding me?
Vernita really needs to be quiet and let Gayle take her praises...

  6. Where was the mother when her 9year old "suckling" needed her love and protection? The mother needs to get off her high horse and go apologize to Oprah for not being there when she was needed most by her baby...I believe only then will the issue of Oprah forgiving her come to play oooo. "Alagemo ti bi omo e na...ati jo "palongo" wa kun si owo omo".

  7. I agree with all what has been said except for d first commenter. Oprah's mother just needs to chill and ask God to forgive her and also Oprah.

  11. yes her mum erred. thats human. but thats how God destined it. that shaped her mindset and propelled her success. remember Joseph and the brothers in the Bible? that her mother breast-fed her, is enough to win Oprah's heart. I am convinced that will happen sooner than later.

  13. My prayer is that complete healing and forgiveness is bestowed upon Miss Winfrey. Unforgiveness is like cancer to the bone.
