Bisi Alimi reminisce on the day he came out as gay on National TV

Bisi made his debut as an openly gay rights activist when he came out on New Dawn with Funmi Iyanda on October 3rd 2004. As he prepares to exchange vows with his partner next month, Bisi took to his IG page this morning to reminisce on how his life changed when he came out. He wrote;

"Day 2 of 30 days to my wedding of 30 things to be grateful of. On the 6th October 2004, I sat on that sofa with Funmi Iyanda and I came out. She gave me the opportunity in no patronising nor condensing way to tell my story. On that day I learnt the power of truth and authenticity. I learnt that life is what you make of it. I was a 29years old boy, just graduating from university with a prominent role in 'Roses and Thorns' a soap series on Galaxy Television. I lost everything after coming out but I gained today. Life was preparing me for a journey beyond my expectations. In 29 days, I will say I do to a man I have come to find solace in his arms. #gaymarriage #30daysofthankfulness #newdawnwithfunmiiyanda#comingout #lgbtcomingout#authenticity #ido

    1. Am really beginning to believe this rumor that Linda is an agent of these satanic forces. These daily celebration of gay lifestyle is becoming worrisome. Linda, ur audience is Nigerian and not European or American. Stop this indoctrination of Nigerian youths to this gay lifestyle. Please don't sell ur conscience.

  3. Ummmm.. coming out in Nigeria when you ain't rich or have powerful friends... That's suicidal. Stay in your well furnished mahogany closets with Scottish wine, enough lube. Condoms..

    1. Bisi Alimi already had an exit plan before coming out. After all, he was on a TV show (had a bit of money) and came out on Funmi Iyanda's couch.

      With those 2 combos, he was sure to be able to make it out the country.

      In your case, Onyx, when you make plans to leave, be sure not to tell a soul. There are people who will pay to stop you even at the airport.

      Any intelligent person knows you've received enough threats.

  16. Congratulations, Bisi. You've been blessed. After the torments in Nigeria, it was like the Lord brought you to England and you're comfortably off and fulfilled. Inspiring. Don't mind ignorant homophobes. They think nothing of defiling naïve young girls, but remember their Bibles whenever gay is mentioned. Gay is good. Gay is part of nature. Enjoy yourself, and please give whatever help you can to suffering LGBT people in homophobic countries.

    1. The sin you commit is very much the same with those molesting young children. You are in no way different from them and the fact that you say something is good does not make it good. A general opinion of good matters not that of homophobic few like yourselves. I pray u and this hideous Alimi find Jesus. Amen
