The day Abuja stood still for Nigerian Pharmacists

The occasion was the Inauguration of the 20th President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and the investiture of new fellows of the PSN. The ceremony which was held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on the 18th February 2016 amidst glitz and glamour was graced by the high and mighty in the society.


The New President, Pharmacist Ahmed Ibrahim Yakasai Fpsn; a two-time commissioner in Kano State and the current Honorary Consul General of the Embassy of Pakistan in Nigeria demonstrated his love for harmony in the health sector by his collaboration with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) which was heavily represented by members of the NMA led by the President: Dr Kayode Obembe. Notably in attendance was President of the Senate: Dr. Bukola Saraki, Honourable minister for Health: Dr. Adewole Isaac, Honourable Minister for Works, Housing and Power and former Lagos State Governor: Babatunde Raji Fashola.

The Chairman of the Occassion , former minister of health and past president of the PSN: Pharm (Prince) Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi warmly received guests such as Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje;  Governor of Kano State,  Governor Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa: former governor of Kano State : Dr Ibrahim Shekarau, senators of the Federal Republic, members of the house of representatives, , Ambassador of Pakistan to Nigeria: Lt. General Agha Muhammed Umar, Former Chief Justice of the federation: Justice Uwais, and other distinguished too numerous to mention. The Past presidents of the society present were Prof Lanre Ogunlana, Dr U.N.O Uwaga, Senator Ekaitte, Pharmacist Okwor ; led by the outgoing president: Pharmacist Olumjide Akintayo.

Also present were royalties from different part of Nigeria.‎ Represented at the event were speaker of the house of reps and the Governor of Niger State.


It was a roll call of giants in the Pharmacy profession which included the President of the PSN Board of fellows Pharm Chiedu Mordi, the Chair of the organizing committee/MD SKG Pharma:Pharmacist Okey Akpa Guest Speaker: CEO, Netherlands Business School :Pharmacist Lere Baale, Ace Politician: Pharmacist Jimi Agbaje and Pharmacist. Dere Awosika (nee Okotie-Eboh), MD; Greenlife Pharma: Prince Olugbenga Falabi.‎ Some of the new fellows were former acting Chair of INEC, Pharmacist Amina Zakari, MD MedPlus Pharmacy (Pharmacist Joke Bakare), MD, HealthPlus Pharmacy (Pharmacist Bukky George),Oil and Gas Guru, Pharmacist Victor Osibodu,‎

 The Secretary of the PSN, Pharmacist Gbolagade Iyiola while giving a closing remark thanked all those who attended and promised that the PSN will continue to collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure the medicines need of Nigerians are met.‎

The Programme was anchored by CEO of Rodot : Pharmacist Remi Adeseun and Pharmacist Seun Omobo of the World Health Organization(WHO).
