Jada Pinkett contemplates boycotting Oscars as host Chris Rock calls it the ‘White BET Awards’

Jada Pinkett Smith took to social media yesterday to express her frustration over the lack of diversity among this year's Oscar nominees. In a series of tweets, Jada, called out the fact that there was no black actor nominated in the top categories in this year's Oscars.. I.e her husband, Will Smith, who got a nomination for Best Actor, Drama for his new movie, Concussion at the Golden Globes. See what she tweeted after the cut

  17. I understand her frustrations, but I think the black community is always looking for an excuse to cry foul. There has been very notable nominations and wins among black actors of different nationality, even from the days of grand racism. Denzel won twice, was multiply nominated,Hattie McDaniel,Jennifer Hudson,Jamie Foxx, Halle Berry....Lupita all won,and manhy others i can begin to write. i think virtually all good,hard-working black actor has been acknowledged at the academy awards, through nominations and outright win. we always feel like the whites are always out to oppress us and as much as that is true, crying won t cut it. every hardworking person will get acknowledged. Period!

  19. rubbish, same as the black Americans discriminate against African acts by asking them to perform and receive their awards before the show that is how they will also be discriminated by other races.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Some see life only through the prism of skin colour. Lupita won this thing (on the strength of her performance) even though she was a novice. Why do black people always feel entitled? just accept you are not good enough on this occasion and try harder the next time

  21. No vex o Jada. Linda take note!

  27. It's not entirely unfair cos BET awards don't nomally add whites to their lists. But i share her thoughts though.

  30. There werent really great performances from black actors thia year except for maybe Will Smith as Dr. Omalu in Concussion but was that really better than many others? He didnt really convince me he was nigerian in that role

    ReplyDelete

    1. Thank you Mark, there were not really great performance by the blacks. Although Will Smith gave his best, let's not forget that the movie tried to paint American football bad and is a true life story. So of course whites being who they are will not give an award for that.

  33. I'm tired of all these American, euro, and Naija trash that pull up a fuss when their candidate doesn't get an award. It is just sour grapes. It is enough.

  43. So which blacks should be nominated?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Exodus of truth without any iota of doubt....Jada spoke it all.

    ReplyDelete
  45. But Will gives interviews all the time denying race problems in Hollywood. Now that he got slighted out yet another acclaimed but ignored performance, his wife comes out swinging. Good luck with that. You can't be with "the blacks" only when affected and then playing ball and reaping the benefits of the system when you want.

  48. Happens in Africa too, at the AMVCAs, the Nigerians are the whites and the rest of Africa are the undervalued blacks.. Just look at the nominations for 2016.. MNETs response to this is introducing area specific awards, maybe the Oscars should do the same, Black actress of the year award, black actor of the year award, etc.. You see how racist that sounds?

    ReplyDelete
  49. wow. What do you expect in a racist society.

    ReplyDelete
  50. That will make sense.

  53. it's funny they say the AMPAS is a racist award when the president, Cheryl Boone Isaacs is black. Who here thinks will smith can be convincing as a nigerian?. Nobody. If it was chiwetel who played the role then maybe. Straight Outta Compton was nominated for original screenplay even if the writers are white.
