Graphic photo: 5 people crushed to death in a grisly motor accident in Benue state

Five people died and several seriously injured in a fatal car accident yesterday, January 1, in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue state.

According to Idoma Voice, the accident involved a lorry conveying more than 50 members of the Universal Reformed Christian Church, URCC (NKST) who were on their way to the annual NKST Conference in Gboko local government area. The vehicle was said to have skidded off the road. The graphic pic after the cut..

"I think the driver of the lorry was trying to avoid a pothole on the road when he lost control of the lorry and ended up in the bush where the vehicle fell with the passengers," an eyewitness said. "As I speak with you, we gathered that five person died in the accident while many sustained injuries, though they have all been taken to public hospitals in Tarka and Gboko for treatment." he added.

The Public Enlightenment Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Mr. Samson Audu, who confirmed the incident said the Command was yet to get full details.

  29. Chai ... R.i.p .. this new year o na wa .. God pls guide and protect all of us in jesus name ..i served in benue state and i must say those guys dont help matters, they jampack themselves in vehicles going long distance .. i remembered my time time there each time i wanted to travel i always have this bad feeling .. in a normal benue scenario if u wanna take a taxi going frm gboko to zaki-biam for instance which is about 4-5 hrs drive three people will sit in the front sit including the driver.. making it a total of 4 people .. then the backseat will accomodate 4-5 people .. dats not all .. in the boot like 2 people will squeeze themselves there.. they have a way of arranging people in the seats in such a way it accomodates everybody only that you cant be comfortable, and this is not a bus but a small taxi car
