The CBN has also reportedly written to various commercial banks about this decision while some banks have also notified their customers, saying it is a temporary measure. Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce however thinks this decision is not a wise one. His reaction after the cut...
Like, did they think of the disadvantages before making such restriction? The students who study abroad, businessmen, sick peopl etc?? The worst part is they made this during Christmas!! Like the worst time ever! Not just cool at all,i wonder how we will move forward with such laws, diversify the economy, encourage our Nigerian products.
ReplyDeletewell..... thr is sense in wat he is sayin
ReplyDeleteIts truly coomon sense, how will they ban ATMs.
ReplyDeleteThey should better think of something else to do.

ReplyDeleteMurray Bruce it is a temporary measure to correct the dollar rate. It is not forever. The administration has already said before they can correct all the errors caused by the past administration, there will be difficult times which will not last for long before everything will finally normalise and everyone will now smile at the end. Nigerians should remember the saying; "No pain, no gain"
ReplyDeleteTrue talk .....so r they going to create another alternative ???
ReplyDeleteMy common sense senator, making sense indeed.

He's right. The ban of ATM use abroad is really ridiculous. We understand that they want to relieve the pressure on naira but punishing everyone isn't the way to go

ReplyDeleteBen my man. This has just made my sunday
ReplyDeleteExactly my point too. Why is this govt making life difficult for citizens both here and abroad.
ReplyDeleteWell let's just say we need to close the economy and get our biafran brothers back to the creative table of the civil war era.if they could create the ogbunigwe then nothing stops them from providing farm equipments, moulds, generator and vehicle parts etc.bros before we had corn our chicken Ate something.lets go back to the basics. No pain No gain
ReplyDeleteExactly my point too. Why is this govt making life difficult for citizens both here and abroad.
ReplyDeleteI support him on this.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't make sense at all. Other countries use thir ATM cards abroad, why should our stop? Does it even sound fair?
There are other economic decisions which can favour our country; as for this one, its a No! No!

ReplyDeleteHeyyyy!!!!!!!! This will effectively kill ALL tech startups in Nigeria. But why will a government we elected for change a positive change want to kill us !!!???
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bruce on this one. This government is trying to make life difficult for us ooooooo. Just negodu

Murray Bruce, do u want solution or not? If you want solution then you have to pass through some hard times before the solution can come. When you have an injury and you go to the hospital, the doctor will apply iodine and give you injection that will pain you before you get relief. Buhari's administration has explained this before that there will be slight hard times in order to correct the problem but it is only for a short while. I dont know why Murray Bruce is just wailing and ranting here when he knows the truth. Dont come here and try to confuse Nigerians because i know that it is PDP's strategy. All i can say is; PDP try harder!

ReplyDeleteSince centuries ben murray bruce you've been making adequate use of this 'common sense' that most of our leaders don't want to use
ReplyDeleteThe commercial banks have placed a ban on use of the debit and credit cards even before Jan 1st 2016. A large number of Nigerians have been embarrassed and stranded abroad due to this new policy that was not thought through before inception. A lot of us got to know after leaving the country on vacation and we had to call the banks because the cards were being declined after it had been used and accepted prior. This is only punishing the common masses. The big shots do not feel this. They have millions outside the country already.
ReplyDeleteI agree wit u in totality
ReplyDeleteSpot on Ben...

Where are they suffering the masses?
ReplyDeleteFor once he made a lot of common sense. The restrictions will hurt the economy most of all.
ReplyDeleteI really dont know how far this will go as there's already a limit to cash one can travel with! At this point just like senator Ben Bruce said that it could have been better if ordinary average business people that survive one way or the other through transactions online could be considered before concluding on such.
ReplyDeleteYes punish only politicians and not the innocent Nigerians. Thanks
ReplyDeletethis sense is not common...this is the best he has made so far... proud of this man for once
ReplyDeleteWell said
ReplyDeleteMr Senator is on point...happy sunday
ReplyDeleteIf only GMB would reason like this I'm sure students schooling abroad wouldn't have to worry about how they'll survive from Jan. 1st 2016. As some have already started tasting this bitter pill.

True talk! How thus buhari and his team want to improve on the nation revenue. All nigerians are not thievies, buhari shd not see himself as the most righteous neither a saint. The idea is BABANLA NONSENSE! All over the world dollar is accepted its only buhari regime in 21st century use of dollar stopped in nigeria and no specific limit to travel outside nigeria and coming to nigeria. We do not see hardship, we need better economy direction that will favour the the masses. Its only those who don't have anything reasonable doing that will be happy with these economy nonsense of buhari.
ReplyDeleteSelfless service senator that cares for his people. #GodBlessYou
ReplyDeleteSometimes, I like Buhari and at other times am confused why I liked him. Sometimes acts like he is a true democrat and before that time expires, the military blood flows where the democracy blood is trying to gush from. Nna, I am speechless.
ReplyDeleteWell said
ReplyDeleteMe like the senator. He lowkey says it as it is..big ups
ReplyDeleteWord that!
ReplyDelete1. This can't work of Cox. How do they transact outside the country?
ReplyDelete2. the best policy would be to create a withdrawal limit.

ReplyDeleteThis is really common sense! Emefielle, be careful of the policies you try to implement because if Nigerians pray for you, you won't last one more month on that seat. If you don't know what you are doing, pls gerrarahia me mehn!
ReplyDeleteYou are a hypocrite. Reach out to your fellow senators who oversee the CBN & give them this input.stop going on social media to be holier than thou. Common sense ko! You didn't have common sense when GEJ was in power. Abi na harmattan blow the common sense enter your head?

ReplyDeleteIt's really so crazy. I don't know what's happening in Nigeria again. Let's get ready for the worse. God will help us.
ReplyDeletePls its not a wise one. Linda pls help us the student studying abroad. These banks dont allow us withdraw and when they do they extort from us. Imagine 100dollar charge to witdraw 50k. Please they should do something
ReplyDeleteHe's right...this is unfair and unjust.I am currently studying in India, and they charge us 10000 naira per withdrawal with Nigerian Atm.I depend on my mother for my school fees and upkeep and if they ban the use of foreign Atm abroad what will me and my colleagues over here do?how are we going to survive?the government should please use common sense while implementing stupid laws..#signing out#
ReplyDeleteCampaigning for 2019 ehh?? Good job but better find urself another party if u wanna lead
ReplyDeleteLol this man is gangster.. NYC talk though
ReplyDeleteI am a banker and truth be told it's not the wisest decision by CBN regardless of our low earnings in forex which has made it quite difficult to settle intl card transactions giving the high demand since banks can no longer accept fx deposits. I still think it's a backward step for us as a country. They could have tried to further reduce card spend limit per person instead of this proposed outright ban
ReplyDeleteAnd he's making a lot of sense! Was this decision not thought through? Where are the technocrats?
ReplyDeleteWell he's said the truth.. This buhari and his policies is slowing becoming an autocratic system with stupid laws...
ReplyDeleteExactly. Dis ban annoys me daily. I hope sth is done fast b4 it is implemented. After all wen Dollar was 140 we cld stI'll use our debit cards abroad and travel with as much money as 10000 dollars. Buhari nd CBN stop suffering Nigerians.
ReplyDeleteWell spoken sir!
ReplyDeleteSeriously what's wrong with this government? Why all this? Am tired of Nigeria as a country. God this country. It's leaders and it's citizens need help.

ReplyDeleteMay God richly bless you more .. Sir....hmmm
ReplyDeleteVery very badt, but how will a man be does(lolz). Anywayz, they should try and sort things out for the ordinary entrepreneurs like Us. They should only face those with ill gotten wealth that can obviously buy a state.
ReplyDeleteI can't but agree with Sen Ben Bruce on this. Banning Naira debit card use abroad is further going to cause untold hardship on Nigerians in diaspora, especially the students.
ReplyDeletevery well said.
ReplyDeleteMr Ben, can you take this to the senate house and have a debate there with your colleagues.
ReplyDeleteYou always sound like a broken record, seeking unnecessary attention on social media.

ReplyDeleteI support Mr Bruce views. He is speaking for the majority of hardworking Nigerians. His argument is a commonsense argument.I hope this ATM matter is temporary because it's anti-business.

ReplyDeleteMr senator dos points of urs r very correct. CBN shud considers nigerian wit SMSE
ReplyDeletePlease sir inform them. Punishing de average honest Nigerian because of the scrupulous activities of politicians is quite unfair. They should find a way to control funds being stolen and not make us feel like we are in de dark ages. I'm beginning to dislike my lovable country despite the hardship endured.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you Sir, this was exactly my thots too. I have a brother studying in Florida n our only means if transferring money is just by this means. you can imagine u going to d bank n all they could say is to send d money thru money gram can u imagine that meanwhile u will b charged to do so its to sure d CBN governor is thinking n acting backward if he does not know what to do let him ask d governor what to do not this dum as LAW. What was d use of letting them register For BVN outside d country with $45 charges n majority had to fly down to d 3 centers giving to them. What a crazy change from d CBN Governor.

Exactly!!! Why punish innocent people for nothing pls this is not the way forward at all this is a wrong change we need to move forward not back ward pls
ReplyDeleteHe's truly right, I wonder what's d use of the BVN.
ReplyDeleteLinda this the most wicked thing a government can do to its citizens, I was in New York last week I went to use the ATM machine and was told,i had exceeded my daily withdrawal limit,it was shocking, thinking it was GTB's normal nonsense, only for me to call GTB customer care and they told me that, the central bank of Nigeria had banned the use of naira ATM abroad without notice and back dated the law without notice, that one couldn't even withdraw 300 dollars a day and one thousand dollars a month anymore. This law affects mostly the masses,it won't even affect the rich/politicians, because they all have platinum/black cards they can use. My question is, why is Buhari causing us so much hardship? These currency exchange policies affect only the average Nigerian, as a hardworking businesswoman,i was terribly embarrassed and humiliated as I became stranded and could not pay my hotel bills or buy food, my sister couldn't pay for a life saving emergency surgery, had to start looking for Nigerians to help us,it was humiliating to be at everyone's mercy, right now I hate this present government that I voted for.
