The issue here is Whites have not business protesting about fee hike...They're the most privileged class in South Africa...His Mom might not approve of him standing in solidarity with blacks, who'll feel the pinch the most...It's like a rich man protesting with the poor that Kerosene price should be reduced. That card, I think, was a joke and tongue-in-cheek reply to whomever may question his protesting along with black student. That's the definition of solidarity.
