Photos: Protest in Rivers over alleged plan by state governor to sack LG Charimen

Some folks this morning took to the street of Port Harcourt to stage a peaceful protest over the alleged plan by the state governor, Nyesom Wike to dissolve the state Local Government Councils. The Council Chairmen who spoke at the protest said any attempt by the governor to sack them from office will be resisted. More photos from the protest after the cut...

  7. Why won't the Governor allow the court to do her job? If you think the way they were elected wasn't constitutional then allow the court to remove them.

  26. The election wasn't proper. And it's illegal
Amaechi the trouble setter fixed the election to distablised the state. The election is not supposed to take place

  27. As i heard, the elections were conducted on may 23rd and was not in line with the constitution that stipulates 90 days notice before elections are held. It seems this man is very keen on dealing with anything that has to do with the past government.

  33. Listen up , dont blame wike if u dont live in rivers or if you have not heard how this LG chairmen were elected. Constitution says before any election is held there should be a prior notice of at least 3months. The election was announced and held less than 1month and a week before swearing in, what kind of an election is that. Many political parties did not contest because it was unconstitutional. Due to the fact that fmr gov amaechi and his candidate dakuku of apc has lost and pdp is taking over they just hurriedly held the election and out of 23 lga apc won 22 Of which many parties did not contest. What kind of election is that? They should be removed and fresh election should hold and follow the due process.

  34. In my opinion, it's a new govt that conducts an LGA elections not the out going. But Mr Wike shld let the law take it's cause.

    ReplyDelete
  35. if the council chairmen are not doing their job, i don't see any reason why the position should even exist. How many of yall criticizing the "alleged" sack know ur own LG chairmen not to talk of holding them accountable. If they're irrelevant, they shouldn't be there then, after all it's the Gov who takes the blame for whatever goes wrong in a state.

  36. Amaechi is an evil man and deserves a beating, what did he give this people? Was dia an election? Rubbish, dis protest to me wouldn't even work.he shld make sure he sacks them and even chases em out of rivers state

  38. Battle for the soul of Rivers State..
And Amaechi throws in the LG chairmen as his agents...
Well, under the constitution, the LGs and subordinate to the state government...
Wike has the constitutional right to dissolve the LGs..
But in doing so, he must quickly move to ensure that fresh LG elections are conducted...

  39. U guyz shld tink b4 u cum hia to say rubbish

  40. Well if the election was illegal and unconstitutional then I am loving Wike all the way for doing it right. Just like tinubu is beginning to become irrelevant, soon it will get to Ameachi. Buhari is too much

    ReplyDelete
  41. Stupid bonario tired of what exactly?, when amaechi was showing his garage attitude did u see anything wrong with it or advise him to let peace reign? Of course u won't, cos yall are birds of a feather. (garage boys/men)
