Over 20 students of University of Nigeria, Nsukka lost their lives on June 2nd in a fatal accident along Nsukka-Enugu expressway near 9th Mile, Ngwo, Enugu after the bus they were traveling in was hit by a tanker. The students were heading to their various homes after they were told to vacate their school for two weeks
following protests in two campuses - Enugu & Nsukka - of the school.
Before they were asked to leave school, the students had protested the bad state of ancillary services in the school. They said their was no water or light, making life difficult for them. The
VC in response, suspended academic activities for two
weeks and students were forced out of the school with military presence. This set were going home when they met their untimely death. So sad. May their souls rest in peace. I have pics from the accident but I'm sure you guys have seen enough!

ReplyDeleteThe VC when all is said and done need to step down. The answer to student protest should not be to shut down the school. The demands do not need a shut down to address.
ReplyDeleteThe services at UNN has been dismal for as long as I can remember and the same issues have always led to protests.
Shameful for a premier Nigeria university. One of the monument or Nigerian independence.

Shebi u ar trying to cover ur ass dats why u told d SUG president to tell us its only a vet med student dat died while in actual sense a lot of students died. But even if it's only one student dat died d fact stil remains dat someone frm d sch died due to ur unintelligent decision. Just dat dis nonsense can happen only in naija and u go free wit it. Try it in a developed country and see ur stupid ass sued sotee u no go finish payin in ur lifetime. VC Ozurumba am talkin to u. Am soo pained ritnow.

ReplyDeletena lie LINDA.....3 people die in that accident,,,and one UNN female student. dnt post what you are not sure about,,,
ReplyDeleteIt was a fantastic day after coming back from the UNEC football field,I strolled into the salon @ Pg to get my hair washed only for me to hear of one two week holz because there was a riot. I jejely made my hair and hoped it was false, only for me to find a memo in my hostel's notice board of the evacuation before 6pm the following day. Haba,it can't be true we waited for Ilogebe the SUG President to surface and say something about the memo. Lo and behold we got an emergency reduction in transport fare by some really nice students. On the d day ghenghen, like action film no buying nor selling in the school,ha these guys plan us well accompanied with no light, phones were dead, the laptops available were being drained by various usb cords which were used in charging phones. The queue @ UBA omg was terrible, Manuwa bstop was like Young park during the festivities, my friends and I trekked with our bags like some refugee in Somalia. We were fortunate to get home safely knowning we plied the same road as the deceased. Now the school authority is trying to downplay the number of casualty to only one student. Like my maths Lecturer will say iff-If and only if the school didn't give us an impromptu mid semester break which was in all intent a coerced break, these young men n women wouldn't have lost their lives. I bet their mum or Dad is still in shock. Well it's Nigeria and it's an accident so no one not even the school will be held responsible right? But take a moment and think about this if and only if this country were more civilized and took education as the only way out of the shackles of dormancy of the economy will students not be valued? RIP Great Lions and Lionesses.
ReplyDeleteThis is false...please visit www.lionspot.com the #1 new platform in unn for the real story and also for the official release from our school..thank you.
