HomeVida Short Script competition begins

Bola’s Dirge is an avant-garde short film about the struggle of a young woman through poverty and the circumstances that led her to make poor choices. It’s a different take on the typical story of the prostitute with the ‘heart of gold’, breaking the fourth wall and urging the audience to engage with the film’s central character- a troubled, troublesome and strong-willed young woman.

Bola’s Dirge won the Human Development Film Prize at the 2013 HomeVida Short Script Competition. Your winning script can also be produced into a short film.

Go to http://homevida.org/competitions/short-film-criteria to read up on the criteria and upload your script today!!!

  5. Very beautiful piece and well interpreted by the actress. Her emotions were so real! I must commend the entire production team involved in this piece that addresses a very pressing issue in this country today. Maternal mortality rate is so high and has turned an otherwise joyful experience for expectant mothers to one of trepidation and fear. In the past few years i have lost otherwise healthy friends to the cold hands of death brought about by the poor maternal healthcare system in Nigeria and i have lost a baby at birth myself and almost lost my life, so this piece pulled at my heartstrings in the saddest way possible. I hope that we can somehow tackle this issue and i thank you guys for this piece which i hope will shed some light on the maternal mortality rate in Nigeria as well as other issues. Bravo!
