8 more Nigerians to face execution in Indonesia - Diaspora group

8 more Nigerians are reportedly waiting to be executed in Indonesia. This is according to the United Nigerians in Diaspora, a group of Nigerians living outside the country.

The group at a press conference in Lagos yesterday May 5th, gave the names of Nigerians waiting to be executed as Michael Titus Igwe, Kingsley Okonkwo, Uchenna Onyewuru, Eugene Ape, Hunphery Ejike, Obinna Nwajiagu, Benjamin Onuoha and Ikenna Abanukwu.

Chairman of the group, Mr Pascal Okolie while briefing newsmen, said Nigerians should rally round with other world leaders to stop the expected executions.
"Considering that the next batch of execution will take place in no distant time in Indonesia, we urge the good people of Nigeria and our government to rise up with the entire world to stop further executions of Nigerians. Enough of the killings. Nigeria should leverage on the strong bilateral relationship it has with Indonesia and negotiate to stop the execution of the eight waiting to be killed. In as much as we totally condemn drug trafficking and wish to sensitize intending traffickers on the consequences that awaits offenders, we also condemn capital punishment especially since it has not been able to quell the issue of drug trafficking in Indonesia.” he said
Mr Okolie said most of the Nigerians that have been jailed in Indonesia were not given fair hearing due to language barrier which made it difficult for them to prove their innocence. He accused the Nigerian embassy in Indonesia of neglecting her citizens in Indonesia
"Most times Nigerians are thrown into prisons for more than four months without anyone knowing about it. They are tortured and some even die in the process. The way a country treats her citizens, is a reflection of how the citizens will be treated in foreign lands. Therefore, we feel it is high time our government rose to the occasion to ameliorate the plight of its citizens. We expected our government to show concern just like other countries whose nationals were involved. The way a government treats its citizens, is a reflection of how the citizens are likely to be treated in foreign lands. Therefore, we feel it is high time our government rose to the occasion to ameliorate the plights of its citizens no matter the circumstance. We use this opportunity to appeal to the youth, to beware of the kind of friendships they keep as well as activities they engage themselves. One of the reasons there are many young Nigerians in prisons in different countries of the world today, is due to get rich quick syndrome, fast track. But in the end, they lose everything including their lives.”he said

And I observed all of the waiting to be executed names are all igbo's. Guess this shows how dubious the igbo's are in trying to get rich. You see them being caught even here in Nigeria trying to use their own unborn babies for rituals..hmmm anyway a word is enough for the wise.

  19. The way a country treats her citizens is the same way they will be treated in foreign lands. This much is all I saw in that write up, the Nigerians over there are no less better than the ones in the prisons here, are they being treated any better, save for the capital punishment over there, there's no difference. If our government treats us well, we will be respected outside, they(foreigners) know how we handle ourselves here that's why they can treat us like shit if we slip over there. The fair treatment can only be done if it starts from home( nigeria) .

we are looking for how to proffer solutions here and you are busy emphasising on the Igbo's and their love for money. Let me ask you a quick question. Don't you love money? Have you not sold your body for money? How do you purchase the things you wear? What do you use to purchase them? So I urge you to shut up ur mouth if you don't have anything reasonable to say.

  50. When the last Nigerians executed names were published people did not look at ethnic concentration because one Abashin who was a yoruba name was among. Many forgot that the Abashin was sentenced to prison in 1999 and not death. But years after he was jailed for that offence they re sentenced him to death. Now this is where I got worried. Is Indonesia trying to just ensure every drug related criminal is killed? Though I do not subscribed to the idea of pleading for mercy but I also do not subscribe to double sentencing for among so single crime. Having said that, I among lol so realize Nigeria has nothing to offer her citizens anywhere in the world including Nigeria. So I encourage the citizens to shun crime and that's the only way they can stay safe. As for the igbos involvement in crime it's a cultural and society thing. When the Igbo society start seen crime as crime and not business, when they start dishonoring illegal monies made by their people. When they stop believing in money and not merit or hardwork. Then we will start to see less criminals of igbo descend. For now let us just move on as we all know how you are seen at home when you do not steal like others and you return home not rich.

  51. There is one tribe indeed that seems to suffer so much from 'an incurable money mindedness' (Wole Soyinka, 2015)...Deny it all you want, you have said the truth. Attack him all you want, he has said the truth. Linda take note, though i'm not juliet, but you need to take note. start a forum and educate your igbo family, they need to stop painting Nigerian bad everywhere they go...haba, na only them waka come. small time, they will say they are the best thing since slice bread, they are the jews of Nigeria, na so Isreali jews take dey find money?..i beg, you guys need to chill and study to show yourselves approved.

  57. The person soliciting for youths and Nigerian government to help out is talking rubbish. Did the youths or Nigerian government send them to go and push cocaine and heroine? What about the others that were killed last week? Dont u think Indonasia will not want people to see them as partial if they let these ones go scored free? It is like you telling Nigerian government to bend its laws because of only 8 people. That is the law of Indonasia. Nigerians should have obeyed their laws. If there is any innocent ones among them, the person should pray to God and the person will be free. Afterall, a lady was set free miraculously at the dying minute during the last exucusion. Any guilty one should face the law. Next time, it will teach people lessons to stay away from crime. Ibo people please stop disgracing and embarrassing Nigeria. Ibo people are too greedy for money. They love money so much to the extent that they can even use their mother for money rituals. Smtcheew
