The Chairman of Daar Communications, owners of AIT, Chief Raymond Dokpesi says that the president-elect, Gen Buhari lacked the constitutional powers to stop his TV station from covering his activities. According to him, the decision to bar the station on Monday April 27th was a reminder of the Decree 4 era which he, Buhari, enacted against freedom of the press when he was in power
"I am sure that the President-elect needs to be reminded of Decree 4, and he should be clearly reminded that section 32 of the constitution makes it mandatory for the media to hold public officials accountable to the people. The president-elect said that he does not want to be covered by AIT, but AIT has a responsibility to the Nigerian public to report the things that are happening.
"There are three national networks available for national coverage in Nigeria, the NTA, AIT and Silverbirds. You cannot stop a foremost private station from reporting in Nigeria, it brings us back to Decree 4 era.”he said
On the controversial documentary about General Buhari and his family which was run by the TV station during the election, Mr Dokpesi said the station was a private entity that could run anything that it feels is fact and accurate.
"If they had produced their own documentary to say this is what we want and AIT did not publish it, then that is another matter. What is obviously very clear is the fact that AIT believes that the historical information about the President elect that were ran, were factually correct. Nothing was done to defame him or impinge on his character or integrity.” he told Premium Times

ReplyDeleteTo report what is true, not fake story like AIT did b4 the election, GMB has it personal rite to who come to his programme for till swearing-in, go and cover GEJ last minute looting, idoit fool.
ReplyDeleteSo why doesn't he. The problem with Nigeria is a huge one. Now how would you feel if say AIT ran a documentary showing the events of the last election and how Buhari's reaction caused his supporters to go on a killing rampage (these people that were killed by the way have families and friends). I am sure that many Buhari supporters on this blog site will still say that the documentary was distasteful and wrong "for what ever reason they have to continually support him". In the developed world he won't even be allowed to contest for the election based on that alone and the forged certificate. GEJ was also insulted, castigated and reproached so much so that he was known as the most insulted president in Nigerian history and he has not for one minute thought of barring any radio or television station from covering his activities. Buhari was at apublic function (receiving the Cuban embassador to Nigeria) as the president elect he had no right to bar any media outlet from covering his activities. What is wrong is wrong.Pls let's stop supporting the wrong things unless this country can never move forward democraticaly.
DeleteEhmmmm Anonymous go learn how to type or set autocorrect on your device before giving such a lengthy rendition of baseless selfish ideas.

Let AIT cover you bathing or taking a shit.
1. Buhari asked pple not to allow themselves be cheated, he never openly asked for a massacre
2. Since you know he has no certificate, sue him and stop talking much jiberish
Anonymous stop displaying ignorance
DeleteEven in freedom we still have privacy
Let AIT cover you taking a leak or bathing if they want breaking news
Since you know GMB has no certificate, sue him like any well meaning Nigerian should. Stop making noise here.
And FYI, he never openly asked for a massacre. All he said was 'don't let yourselves be cheated, fight for tour right'. You speak hearsay and follow same. Get facts pls

Deletenotice the hypocrisy of the Jonathanians on Buhari's decision on AIT.
ReplyDelete☆ In 2013 two Leadership newspaper reporters were detained for days for publishing a presidential directive. Guess who was president then?
☆ In 2011 six reporters from The Nation newspaper were detained for publishing OBJ's letter to GEJ. Guess who was president then?
☆ In June 2014 men of the military & SSS seized and destroyed copies of major newspapers, stopping circulation. Guess who was president then?
☆ In March 2015 two Al Jazeera journalists covering elections were held in custody for weeks for no reason. Guess who was president then?
☆ In 2014 AIG Joseph Mbu ordered the arrest of AIT journalist Amaechi Anakwe for calling him controversial. Guess who was president then?
Me think the Jonathanians should just keep quiet. They do not have the moral virtue to jugde the rightness of principles or conducts.

Delete@Anon10:31, people engage in all forms of misconducts (disregarding standards and ethics) in Nigeria today because they know the inefficiency of our justice system. Our courts are nothing but cash-and-carry centers where justice is on sale for the highest bidder, especially to the high and mighty or those connected to powers that be. That's why AIT will damn all penal consequences to air such false concoctions and malignity against GMB.
DeleteYou are correct sir but the ban have been lifted nah
ReplyDeleteTrue talk bt i tink both of u need guiness malt and peakmilk. Lolo1
ReplyDeleteDey shld end dis matter already
ReplyDeleteDokpesi, be careful o
ReplyDeleteAIT chairman should do the right thing .. Which tender an apology to the President elect and let the whole matter die down.
ReplyDeleteHe that seeks for equity must come with a clean hands. Dokpesi should spare us his stories, even tho AIT is privately owned, they have no moral right to air such video of an aspirant since he said they are only representing the interest of Nigerians. How sad all the benefits u,ve been enjoying from the incumbent administration will go come May 29th.
ReplyDeleteWhat about tvc and sahara reporters?
DeleteJust remove that equity line, it wont make you sound smart.
DeleteYou're on point! lets see how it goes!

ReplyDeleteYou will soon explain ur self in jail, let's see who will help you this time!
ReplyDeleteWhy would he be going to jail?. Illiteracy is definately a sin but semi illiteracy should be a mortal sin.
DeleteStop talking like a child.
DeleteIf Gen. Buhari could ban AIT, he should also ban the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC). I think this is a first move in the wrong direction. He has not been sworn in yet. What happens when he is sworn in?.
ReplyDeleteHeld he is also insisting on probing GEJ.
DeleteQuite right. Why didn't he ban the military from providing him with security. Afterall they are the people that started the smear campaign after the said that they did not have his certificate(which by the way i believe is true). The man is an illitrate. You do not start a job based on falsehood and deceit.
DeleteGod bless you.
Delete@Asampokoto or pomo or what U call urself, U Igbos will die in frustration about Buhari. Keep quiet and lick ur self inflicted wound U incured from ur political suicide in the 2015 general election.
DeleteDo u know you are an idiot Buhari was defeated by GEJ in 2011 election, mind 2019 is not far, the people that voted Buhari in might decide to vote him out if he does not meet their expectations. This is democracy it's a matter of ethnicity
DeleteDokpesi's is being economical with truth being a PDP member himself.DAAR communication is a media house erected to serve Dokpesi's political interest under the guise of serving the Nigerian people. The outfit is simply a political propaganda gathering and dissimination machinery of Dokpesi's political affiliation and interest. All under the guise of press freedom and freedom of information/expression.
Even in the US, not all the foremost media houses are allowed to cover the president's activities.Only a select few, else even enemies of the state could infilterate the whitehouse under the guise of a foremost media house or press.
That is a big fat lie. No media house can be banned in the USA from carrying out their functions. in the USA Freedom of speech is at it's highest. It is so entrenched in their constitution that nothing can be done about that.
Delete@Anon 10:44 U just rant without knowledge. How many media houses cover the white house? U can only answer it correctly if U r knowledgeable about the whitehouse media coverage, else U'll continue ranting in ignorance.

ReplyDeleteAll dis bragging will do your cause no good. Be it a Military era or Democratic era, u simply cant win a sitting President.
It wont take much to look into d revenue areas of all your companies n close all avenues. Dat kills AIT in 6months... Next is dig into your past and send d efcc dogs after u.. dat keeps ur ass in cell for d next 8yrs at least.
If Buhari provides d basic improvement to nigerians, trust me, no one will care wot he does with u.
- From D WISE ONE
U a very foolish,d likes of u are d reason why Nigeria is like did.I ask God for long life,to see d change buhari will bring.
DeleteAnd this is the change you voted for? Intimidation!
Delete@Anon11:06 and Anon1:28, media houses whose sole agenda is disregard professional ethic and standards in pursuit of selfish interest must be sanctioned. No one can hide under the guise of freedom of information or press freedom to hurt another person's fundermental rights. AIT's practices during the last elections fall abysmally below standard journalism.
Delete@Anon11:06 and 1:28 , if Buhari's aides denies access to unaccredited journalists or stops any insidious media from runing some mischief on Buhari, the media outlet should learn to work professionally and ethically next time. The press does not have any immunity to misconduct or assasinate people's character while hidding under the guise of press freedom. You talk about our courts as though they were efficient. For now our courts are nothing but cash-and-carry centers, and until there's drastic reformation in our justice system alot of misconducts will continue with impunity. So get that straight..

ReplyDeletedopesi ur own no wan too much so, honestly u seem not too be professional in disbursing ur information.
ReplyDeleteDokpesi or whatever u call ur name , pls do not join issues with the president elect, your station is known for airing malicious and politically biased programs during the just concluded general elections. If you are not also aware the president has what the constitution call veto power to override any enforcement as long as major constitutional provisions are not breached. In my opinion, barring AIT does not breach any major constitutional provisions, since we have other stations that will cover his activities. Dokpesi is sick and needs to see his doctor, you among those who benefited from the high level of corruption in the outgoing administration.
ReplyDeleteWhy did APC release a statement that AIT can cover his activities then?idiot!
DeleteYou must be an idiot. It really is that simple.

DeleteIt is a shame that most Buhari supporters will not see the wrong in what Buhari did and the correctness of what Dokpesi stated here! Buhari supporters behave like brainwashed and brainless terrorists and will never see reason in whatever an opponent says! If Buhari has any grouse in what ait aired the property thing to do in a democracy is to sue for defamation! In this case ait can come up with the defence of justification if what they broadcasted was true and correc! Hence, if you steal and call you a thief, I can be absolved by the court if you sue me and I prove that what I called you is true and correct!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that Buhari knows that what ait broadcasted was true and correct, that's why he doesn't want to follow the proper channel to seek redress! He rather wants to abuse his power!!!
@GoaldynBoy. Buhari is not fighting anybody, and if his aides stop any insidious media from runing some mischief on him, the media outlet should learn to work professionally and ethically next time. The press does not have the right to encroach into people's privacy without consent, or have any immunity to assasinate people's character while hidding under the guise of press freedom. You talk about our courts as if we have an efficient justice system. I am surprised at how Nigerians comment on blogs.. Dokpesi has EVERY right to say anything, this is a democratic governement for crying out loud. Those who are advising Buhari had better call him to order, alot of people know so much about him. This generation know little or nothing about this Buhari of a man, when he starts i hope all of you running your mouths for him will continue to run it. Buhari should know that alot of people can open his ass, the fact that no one is talking about how masisvely the northerners rigged the election does not give people the audacity to insult Goodluck. What is happening in Kano today is just the begining, sheh dem give am 1.9 people including cows wey thumb print, let's watch out and see. Linda is you like use my comment cook ewedu soup.
ReplyDeleteSincerely I think we should make a case with this now than later. A lot will talk out of emotions but the truth better be ironed out now than later. If the President elect starts like this, write it down there will be no freedom of speech sooner or later. All our blogs will be put on serious tension and the democracy we cry out for will be defeated . He is crying out because I tell you this might just be the beginning. I see the beginning of dictatorship. Transparency is the watch word which eventually translates to CHANGE . Is he trying to hide anything.
ReplyDeleteHigh thief oh sorry chief pray that GMB don't remember NIGERIA SHIPPING LINE which you were a benefactor.

ReplyDeleteI am surprised that High Chief Raymond Dokpesi is so naive politically that he does not know that there are occasions when media houses have to be accredited to cover some government functions. He is a poor student of history otherwise he should have remembered how his beloved Jonathan handled some media houses that his administration considered unfriendly. Silence could have been golden on his part rather than taking on the President-elect who is still basking in the euphoria of popular mandate that the people are unwilling to allow anyone to rubbish, least of them a Dokpesi whose AIT played a nauseating and ignoble role in the run up to the general elections.

ReplyDeleteBuhari is yet to be sworn in as president elect, he still has his right to who covers his activities.
ReplyDeleteMoreso, Dokpesi can not vow he doesn't knew abt the video published abt Buhari, sincerely speaking; it's bad to document abt som1 like that.
Point of correction, there are more than three media houses. Where does this joke of a man put Channels Television. As far as I am concerned, Dokpesi is persona non-grata.

are we still on this? did Buhari not release a statement saying any accredited media house is free to cover his activities ?
ReplyDeleteThis same bhastard Dokpesi that went begging Nigerians to save his collapsed company is the same that went dinning with the embezzlers of Nigeria's corporate wealth. Obama chased herald in america from covering his event. Buhari must look for a way to destroy evil bloodsucking leeches like Dokpesi.
ReplyDeleteIxnt, leave stories for the gods.
ReplyDeleteI simply addressed his insulting and show of biase. GMB has once again proven that nigerian media doesn't understand proper journalism and seperation of fact from fiction.
He clearly isn't accredited yet when dealt with lawfully he appeals to sentimental Nigerians for biase judgement on poor Buhari.
You guys clearly owe GMB an apology and pls let him live his life and run his govt. If in 6 months you saint satisfied, appeal for impeachment through your senator and rep members.
