Photos: Arik Air passesngers stranded at UK Heathrow airport for 2 days

According to passengers of Arik Air who reached out to LIB, they said they have been stuck at UK's Heathrow Airport since Wednesday March 25th because the airline cancelled their flights to Nigeria on both Wednesday and Thursday nights. Some of the passengers are stuck with children. Right is the bus that Arik provided to take the passengers to a hotel they provided where they can stay until a plane was available to bring them to Nigeria This was about 4am early this morning. One passenger said he was traveling back to Nigeria to vote but Arik is making it difficult.

They said the airline hasn't told them when they'll be traveling and they also offer no-refund policy. Most say they are angry and exhausted. More photos after the cut..

    1. These Arik people are pathetic. That's how they delayed their flight from JFK New York to Nigeria . You travel with them and you find your bags torn at baggage claim.

Will never advice anyone to travel with them. Especially international flight.

  36. I wonder why people still use this airline, when all we hear is tales of disappointments, cancelled flights bad services in general.

  37. Why anyone will use Arik to fly abroad is a mystery to me. Add some more money and buy a Virgin Atlantic or BA ticket. Even the other non-direct flights like KLM, Air France and yes, Lufthansa are much better.

  53. Arik should diversify to danfo and Molue driving.
Flying appears too hi-tech for them. I hear they serve pako biscuit and over-diluted fanta on local flights! Eewwww!

  54. Now they are doing this reward card program, giving free miles as long as u keep flying with them. I don't even know where I threw mine. They've given me like 20 already but I can't sign up for that bullshit, cod I try to avoid flying arik every now and then.

  55. This excesses of so called Arik are getting too much. I expericed the same with them in year 2009 .we ought to leave for niger at 11pm but we left at 430am instead the next day and worst part was that they never brought our luggages to Lagos.we were told to come back the next day for our luggages.

  58. Typical Arik Air. The last time I travelled with Arik the flight was cancelled with no explanation nor apology. We slept at the airport . By most EU regulations passengers are entitled to claim for compensation. Take them to an ombudsman

    ReplyDelete
  59. Go online and find out how to claim for compensation. You need to put in claim for compensation. Don't wait for Arik

  60. Arik Arik! Always them,SMH

  61. I fly ARIK to patronise a Nigerian-owned airline and for the convenience of flying direct between NY and Lagos. I might need to reconsider and live with the inconvenience of flying via Europe with more reliable and customer-friendly airlines. Such a shame though. Last time I was in Lagos they lost power at the airport and ARIK's computer system had no backup and took almost an hour to restart check-in again! Couple with non-functioning entertainment systems, out of order toilets (even for a flight originating from Lagos) for a 10 hour flight etc, I'm seriously thinking of switching. I wonder if the CEO or their PR department read these comments.

  62. That's what you get, when you are cheap. You saw Virgin Atlantic there, you went for awoof. Penny wise pound foolish.

  63. Demand your money back and if they refused, take them to small claims court here in UK. I have experienced similar situation like this before and I was not happy with their service so I took them to small claims court whereby judgement was in my favour.

  64. Inside information.. Aril is going broke and having financial issues.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Arik is forever useless. I flew Arik to London in 2012 from Abuja, booked a return ticket and on returning, I was taken to Lagos instead of Abuja without being informed. Bad experience overall. I avoid Arik like a plague.

    ReplyDelete
  66. It has nothing to do with politics. Arik has ALWAYS been messed up. I wonder why people are just speaking up. In 2011, they did the same thing to my hubby who was travelling from New York to Lagos. He bought a return ticket and the first leg was fine but the return leg became problematic. They said their fuel tank was leaking and put my hubby and others in a hotel for 2 days. They did the same thing to my sister in 2012. The same excuse of leaking fuel tank and kept her also for 2 days in a hotel with other passengers. It was one of the staff who told us confidentially that they do that when the flight is not full enough to make money for them. So they tell u a bogus excuse and put u in a hotel till more bookings come in. They would rather spend less money housing you in a hotel for a few days than fly an empty plane where they will still be required to pay for other airport services and lose both ways. No be today o. E don tey.

  67. At Abuja airport, yesterday people were checked in for an Arik air 9:00am Ibadan flight. By 6pm they were still there. No explanations. Nothing Eventually they had to leave the airport

  68. Useless people, when they dissapoint thier customers abroad they will put them in a hotel, but when they do the same in Nigeria the customers can go to hell. My nephew slept on the floor of the airport when Arik disappointed on the Lagos joburg route.Govt shld scrap the airline.

    ReplyDelete
  69. ARIK Boss sponsored GEJs campaign in 2011 and since then has enjoyed protection from the presidency. NCAA and other aviation have tried to curb their excesses but always get overruled from above.
Scenarios like this happen daily on Arik operations and will continue to occur as long as the current government is in power. Frequent flyers and aviation insiders will corroborate.

  70. Could they not have partnered with another airline? They don't do any kind of code share? When buy Nigeria goes wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Na wa o,, arik ur name is going down surprise us

  72. My People I greet you all. Let's not over flog this issue. Arik Air is not a bad airline and it's not cheap as people claim. The Staff are experienced, and presents as well trained to meet international standards.. The "stranded" passenger as LIB put it are lodged in decent 4* hotels and in line with EU regulations they have been given compensation award notice to claim for a free return ticket valid for 1year. What more can be done... I know this because I was affected when our flight was affected before the initial scheduled election of 14th February was cancelled. And Arik supported and took cars of all affected passengers.
The underlying problem is that there will be no movement in Nigeria on election day so it is not rocket science for people to calulate and not travel nearer the election day... We Nigerians love to condem quickly but fail to see the other side of the divide. Ldt's stop apportioning blame and pray for our country. I have been stranded in Heathrow Airport during a busy christmas period on a Virgin Flight for 2 days and had to upgrade, paid more to fly on BA to Lagos. These things happen...
Linda Ikeji, you should know the rules of journalism... try get facts before posting any and everything that is sent to you.... have you interviewed Arik spokesperson for their version of e ents?
please stop causing panic and worries for Nigerians as people are worry laden as it is already .. Your blog comes accross as judgemental and one sided especially diring this election period... you need to work on it... This is my candid. and neutral view. ( the truth is bitter but it must be said)...

    Thank you.
