Traffic gridlock in Lagos as GEJ kicks off presidential campaign

President Jonathan will be kicking off his presidential campaign at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos around 11 this morning and as expected, there's heavy traffic in some parts of Lagos. Police officers are seen in some locations diverting motorist to take alternative routes. See the pics after the cut...

  40. So a Nigerian writer interested in politics is asking where Mrs Buhari is, and why the APC presidential candidate has left her out of his presidential pursuits 3 times, and even now making it his 4th time.
    ‘When Buhari had a photo-shoot recently where he was dressed in the attire of various cultures of Nigeria, I wondered why he was the only one in the picture. How does a man run for president, take pictures of himself at a desk with the Nigerian flag in the background but his partner of many years would be missing from the shoots? They decked the General in suit and even had a picture of him “hi-fiving” a child but there is none where his wife appears? Why? I do not want to speculate on his private life as a married man but I think those images portray him as a self-centred person who does not share space’ he wrote. Read the full article culled from Punch after the cut.

    The photograph of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), at the Lagos State interdenominational thanksgiving service standing with his running mate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo; the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, and Governor Babatunde Fashola on the front row says something about the APC presidential candidate.

  62. I was in Marina earlier on today (about 2 hrs ago)and the traffic situation there is atrocious!
    A lot of routes have been blocked and his supporters (take note.... not police officers or security operatives)were being very rowdy and directing vehicles in whatever direction suited them.
    I had very little respect for him before but with the way this is being handled, I'm more irritated than words could adequately convey.

  63. Couple of points people;
    1. The bloody coward ran from Abuja Eagle square to come to Lagos to "flag-off" his campaign. He merely acknowledged the power of Boko-Haram over his life!
    2. As a leader who is meant to give a damn about the welfare of people, you come into Lagos and boldly commandeer TBS without a thought to the traffic impact this would cause hapless commuters! When it is that in other climes all these issues would be taken into consideration before a rally this size is held. You waltz into town thinking we owe you a favour? IDIOT! I will never vote you in! you continually display your ineptitude as a leader and more recently, as an individual.
    Go figure.

  71. Dear anonymous, Buhari is the one campaigning and not his wife. When Jonah, Fashola, Tinubu (to mention a few) were campaigning at various times in their careers, did you see their wives?? Did you not know Madam Patience after her husband got into office?? Who knew Fashola's wife before then? And same goes for countless other politicians? Take several seats back abeg.
    Meanwhile, when APC did a rally last year, they told us the roads that would be blocked and the alternative routes that we used. PDP, what happened?
