"There is no morality in governance. If you want to be moral, go to church" - Rotimi Amaechi

The Governor of Rivers state Rotimi Amaechi was a guest on AIT's Focus Nigeria this morning where he talked about a lot of things including his reservations about President Jonathan...
"I respect the president as a person. He is a gentle man, he is a good man but there is no morality in governance. There is no goodness in governance. If you want to be moral or want to be a good man, go to church. Right there when it comes to governance, its about the people. It is about delivering to the people. It is about competence. It is about your ability to perform. So when you look at the President and you say he is a gentle man, you should also look at somebody in terms of performance. But even those who say he is a good man, what about the fact that you can compare his government to Abacha's government. What is the difference? TAN singing everywhere one million man match, can you compare the two?"

TAN, they are getting how many signatures? 17 million? They got 17million Nigerians to sign to vote. That's how they voted for governors forum. They say everybody sign for governor's forum. Sign to vote. Now if you compare this, compare again the use of the military under Abacha and how the President is using the military against citizens. Can you see the two? I say to people, if I were to be an adviser to the President, I would say watch, ...History, History and you should be careful" he said

  4. I beg to disagree Gov Rotimi.
There is morality everywhere just as there is immorality everywhere. It all depends on you to take your stand and face the consequences.

Agreed that some environment may seem "conducive", but it all trickles down to choice, your choice.

    1. True! There is morality everywhere, it should not be reserved for religious places alone. Also, performance and morality are not mutually exclusive. A leader should be moral and perform his duties effectively.

    2. Listening to Amaechi is waste of time. One can see how confused he is. There is no environment that has morality. When people like Amaechi choose to live a life without morality standard, is he fit to lead Rivers people.
Rivers people need to stand against Amaechi's evil plans again.

  26. It very sad and unfortunate that the President surrounds himself with hypocrites who only tells him what he want to hear and not the realities on ground. Nigeria is sick for goodness sake. Is it in terms of security of lives and properties, mega corruption or use of power with impunity? It is foolhardy to belief that the President is looking away with his TAN when Nigerians are been massacred in their thousands in Borno, Adamawa and Gombe as if those states are not parts of Nigeria. The only prominent agenda on the table of the ruling government now is the re-election of Mr. President come 2015, like Gov. Amaechi rightly said, the President should look back at history to enable him take decision that will be beneficial to our dear country. He should be able to look at praise singers and A.G.I.P people to hold their peace and let him be.

Errrm kind sir... I believe what we are currently suffering in Nigeria is LACK OF MORALITY in governance. So you might want to check out your definitions before making public statements. I quite agree that we do not need "gentle-natured" people in government at this point in our de-evolution... But what we absolutely do need are good and moral people.

  51. Its like Amaechi cannot say a word without criticizing Jonathan. Yet he has not paid civil servant salaries for two months running. Can he show or tell the world a single project he executed since two years ago in Rivers State? Rivers people wise up. Don't let Amaechi and his critiques lead Rivers State inside well.He is busy attending and donating Rivers State money to fund Elections when his people are dying of hunger.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Those who agree with this are funny:
I get where he is coming from. That there must be vision in governance and not just by saying 'Goodluck is a goodman, a gentle man', it should be performance based.

    BUT...
Our chief problem in the Nigerian political sphere is Immorality. This same immorality surpasses lack of vision. Why? One who lacks vision may change easily if he surrounds himself with competent people.
But immoral people mostly lack vision. How can they have vision when their chief aim is to plunder the nation?
Ok, lets even concede that they have vision and have drawn maps in their heads, will their raving greed allow them actualise these things?

Amaechi, you all know that goodluck actually has some few good plans for Nigeria but you and your cohorts won't let him be. When the opposition have nothing to add but unfounded and unconstructive criticism, how do we judge it?

The issue of boko haram, a man-made disaster is taking up a lot of money and attention. Can't these sponsors stop stocking their arsenals? Is it not a clear case of not wanting the government to succeed? What are they scarred of?

  56. The man is what I call an ASD ( Attention Seeking Device). the idea that morality ain't needed in governance makes me wanna buy him a pocket dictionary. people teach dere pets as in animals good morals dis days how much more our leaders.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Again may here did understood what he meant. Indeed, if you want to be morally righteous as a president you will never get anything achieved. Be cause you will want to be grateful to those who got you elected, and also want to be honest so will you let them steal because they got you there (gratefulness vs integrity) in one way or another you will end up not morally righteous. So at the end of the day the needs of the people should prevail, not whether or not you were nice or good to those around you.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Dear Amaechi, Your response confirms that the people of Rivers State have indeed suffered significantly under your rule. There is no morality?????!!!!! Are you fucking kidding me????!!!! Your brain is so syphillictic that you are no longer capable of common sense! First, you need a moral compass to rule anyone. Why? You will be faced with decisions that can only be made if you know what is right and what is wrong. By the way, atheists have a moral compass but do not go to church. A person without a religion can make the right decisions if they use good moral judgment. What is it about morals that is so important? Its about ethics. Morals as defined refer to a person's standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do. It is about principles of right and wrong in behavior. Its about ethics and ethical conduct. Morals tell you it is not right to steal. Morals demand that you be honorable and transparent in your dealings. Morals require that you are fair in your decisions. Morals require that you do no harm. Morals define you as a human and DIFFERENTIATE you from wild wild beasts in the forest. Maybe that is why your demented self is in the habit of making demented comments. The cross between morals and religion is that the bible and Quran both preach morals - codes of conduct. You do not need to be in church to pay people's salaries. You do not need to go to church to ensure that Rivers citizens have due access to jobs and wealth creating opportunities. You do not need churchl to know that taking life is bad. Back in our father's time, when you killed they "washed" your hands to free you of the karma of taking life. These are the thoughts of forefathers who are not church going folks. You do not need church to know that you should not force yourself on young girls. You do not need church to know that you should not expose your private parts to everything in skirt. You do not need church to know that Ogboni society is WRONG. You do not need church to know that cheating your maids and drivers is bad. You do not need church to tell you that you need to care for the underprivileged in your midst. Why am I wasting my time on demented people? You FUCKING NEED MORALS YOU MORON!!! Your pickled brain has holes in it. Retire and stop trying to change the rules of the universe so that you can live with your heinous crimes. Be a man, deal with what sins you have committed. Accept the guilt and live with it or commit suicide. Stop trying to force us to accept it or convince yourself that what you did was not evil.

  59. It might be that he is quoted out of context.. but in reality Amaechi is a man who will do anything to reach his goal.

Unfortunately, he just shows how our ruling class really is, Jonathanians or APCs or other PDPs are all the same. People who see this politics as a source of income and are either fighting to retain positions or earn promotions..

To rule is to lead, to lead is to serve.. We do not have servants in our midsts
